Rustic Boho Summer Tipi Wedding

Rustic Boho Summer Tipi Wedding https://www.luciewatsonphotography.com/

As summer draws to a close for another year, I look forward to the autumn and all the delights with the change of season. But it’s easy to see why summer is the most popular time of year for weddings, especially when you see this delightful summer wedding celebration.

WWW readers Stephanie and Andrew were married on the 17th June 2017 in a church ceremony followed by a reception at Kirkley Hall in Northumberland.  The sun was shining down on them and the conditions were so perfect for their boho feel tipi wedding. There was a slight hiccup (there is always going to be something folks), when they experienced a power cut in the evening, but their band were true pros and kept the party in full swing. Turns out it was the couple’s most memorable moment, sometimes unforeseen events actually make a day all the more special.

The rustic theme worked so well, with so many personal touches and fun decorations. The seating plan was made from gin bottles, the bunting hand stitched and their dogs were incorporated into the details. So cute! I am loving the outfits here, what style. Stephanie plumped for bridal separates by Charlotte Balbier and added a flower crown to her bohemian look. Andrew and the boys chose a really cool ensemble, which looked awesome together. With mix and match brown tweed and navy suits plus floral bow ties. Then there were the bridesmaids in their ASOS and Chi Chi London nude frocks. Gorgeous.

I cannot thank Lucie Watson Photography enough for sharing these dreamy images.

THE PROPOSAL | We went to New York in September 2015 and Andrew had planned to propose in Central Park but our flight was delayed, we didn’t get to the hotel until late and I wanted to go to Times Square first rather than Central Park! When we eventually got back to our hotel room, Andrew dropped to one knee and proposed. The next day we went to Tiffany’s where we picked my engagement ring together. It was an unbelievable experience and choosing a ring was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make!

THE VISION | Straight away we knew we wanted a relaxed and informal wedding where everyone would just have a great time with no pressures. I love Pinterest and quickly fell in love with the whole rustic theme, which I felt also fitted with our informal vision. I’ve always loved the idea of an outside boho wedding but with our great British weather I knew this might be difficult! Then I saw a tipi and immediately knew having our reception in one would be absolutely perfect!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We planned our wedding over approximately 18 months and pretty much booked all our suppliers early on. I knew having a summer wedding would mean higher demand and I didn’t want to risk missing out on anyone! I’m a very organised person and this helped a lot during the whole planning process; which meant a number of spreadsheets!

THE VENUE | St Mary the Virgin Church, Ovingham and Kirkley Hall Ponteland.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I chose to wear Charlotte Balbier separates as I wanted to wear something that wasn’t restricted and fitted with our relaxed informal style. As the top was very detailed I had very simple accessories; including a beautiful Tiffany bracelet my dad gave to me when it was just us two in the morning.

FINDING THE DRESS | I found my dress in a small boutique in Stocksfield called Rosina Brown Bridal, which I knew stocked Charlotte Balbier. I actually had my eye on a different dress but when I went for my second appointment Daisy, who runs the boutique, brought out two new pieces that had just arrived into the shop. Daisy asked me, as a favour, to try on the pieces so she could see what they looked like on a real person, and I was more than happy to oblige! As soon as I put on the pieces I knew it was right for me!

GROOM’S ATTIRE | To go with our theme Andrew chose a brown tweed, which he wore with a floral bow tie and pocket square.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | As we were having a church ceremony we were lucky to have our music played on the beautiful organ. My entrance was to Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke and our recessional music was, of course, the Wedding March. We had two readings, one from the Bible ,which a bridesmaid read and the second was a poem from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which was read by one of Andrew’s oldest friends.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had four beautiful bridesmaids who wore mink coloured dresses from ASOS and Chi Chi London.

THE FLOWERS | I love flower crowns and knew for the wedding I would want to wear one rather than a veil. I wanted the flowers to look like they had just been picked from the garden in lovely bright summer colours with lots of texture.

THE CAKE | To carry on with our rustic theme we had a three tier semi naked cake decorated with lots of berries and flowers.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We chose Lucie Watson for her love of natural light. Having looked through Lucie’s blog it was clear she had a real talent for telling a story through her photographs and that was exactly what we wanted. What I love about our photos is how Lucie captured all the love and laughter from our day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | My super talented aunty handmade the bunting for the tipi – there were over 800 flags made! Some of the flags had personalised messages, which made it even more special. We are a crazy dog loving family and so we couldn’t have our day without them. To incorporate our dogs I took a number of polaroids and these became part of the centrepieces! I also made a number of signs for the tipi including my favourite ‘Trust me you can dance – alcohol’, and whilst the DIY was time consuming it really made it worthwhile seeing the end products on the day.

THE HONEYMOON | Following the wedding we went on our mini moon to the Lake District. This was perfect for a few days of relaxation after the manic lead up to the wedding day. We’re then going to Thailand for two weeks in November, which we cannot wait for.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | At about 10pm when the band was playing and the party was in full swing, there was a power cut! The tipi went into complete darkness but our guests started chanting and the band kept with the beat! It was so unplanned, it was perfect. The band said – ‘We don’t need power to party’, which has never been more true.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Everybody says it but the day really does go over in a flash, so really take in every moment and just enjoy it! Also remember to eat all of the food on offer, even if you don’t feel hungry because of the adrenalin. My regret is that I didn’t have any of our evening BBQ, which everyone said was amazing.
