Ciao lovelies!

Italy is one of my favourite places in the world so when this little beauty landed in our Whimsical Wonderland inbox I just couldn’t wait to share it with you.  There is just so much to love about this wedding, all captured beautifully by EmotionTTL.

Bride Kate and groom James married on the 24th June 2016 at Castello di Duino in beautiful Trieste; a location close to Kate’s heart and the first location that came to mind when it came to planning the big day.  Kate’s parents chanced upon the incredible venue and it’s easy to see exactly why they fell in love with that phenomenal castle; a perfect rustic backdrop for that dreamy reception.  Being so organised and excited by the personal detail of the day, Kate knew she wanted to plan and design the entire event.  I’m sure you’ll agree that her approach really paid off with her creative flair producing such romance and elegance; all tied together by those rose, blush and fuchsia tones.

Kate’s got some fantastic top tips amongst the prettiness so I’ll leave you to take it all in whilst I sit coveting that incredible prosecco tower and dreaming of an Italian feast!

THE PROPOSAL | 23rd December 2013

THE VISION | Personal and traditional family wedding with an Italian twist.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Giving myself 3 years I thought like any bride that any successful wedding is all in being organised and prepared for the big day. However, with the laid back attitude towards weddings in Italy, I was blown away when I was told “come back three months before to organise a wedding in Italy.” Can you imagine my face of horror as this isn’t typically told in the UK.

Trieste, Italy was always my desired place to get married, even as a little girl. Trieste is a place I had visited often as we have close family friends there. I couldn’t wait to show this beautiful city to my family-to-be and close friends. I planned on making my wedding a three day event! Giving my guests the experience they would never forget.

A year in advance I planned the wedding of my dreams. My partner and I would regularly fly to Trieste to meet with venders and suppliers. We choose a June wedding as we would be guaranteed good weather for my vision of an outdoor wedding.

I planned on 47 guests flying out to Venice where on arrival to Trieste I organised a drink and food reception. The night before the wedding our guests attended a three course wedding reception at a beautiful local restaurant in the city. We planned a Catholic wedding in a small church next to the beautiful venue, Castello di Duino. The day after the wedding we had a pool party at Portopiccolo, Sistiana on a private jetty where our guests could relax and enjoy more of the amazing Italian cuisine.

THE VENUE |  Castello Di Duino.

My wedding venue was found by my parents when they were visiting Trieste and came across the beautiful location. It had everything I desired from the sea views overlooking the gulf of Trieste, rustic setting of a fourteenth-century building and beautiful flowered gardens. The space in the courtyard of the castle was the perfect setting for a small outdoors wedding. It fitted in with my idea of a rustic wedding with modern accessories. An added bonus of the Caste Di Duino was it is a historical museum which was shut off to the general public for the day which allowed our guests to explore the beautiful location.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Sheshea Bespoke Wedding Dress.

FINDING THE DRESS |  I found finding the perfect dress probably the most difficult part of my whole wedding; I had to search high and low. I wouldn’t call myself fussy but I struggled to find “the” dress which complemented me. Deciding to have my dress personally made was the best way forward for me. I was able to choose each and every part of my dress to where it would sit and what material I desired.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Marks and Spencer’s Savile Row Suit. Hugo Boss Tie/Pocket Square.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Valentina Russo String Quartet.

Bride Entrance: Canon in D

Left Church as Man and Wife: Here Comes the Sun – Beatles

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Dessy Bridesmaid Dresses, Colour: Midnight Blue.

I always envisioned having my bridesmaid in different style dresses as each of my maids is a different shape and size. As we all know ,we all like and prefer to wear something which suits us personally. Therefore I choose the colour and material and asked my bridesmaids to pick their own dress. This worked out perfectly as each of my maids was happy with their dress and they all wore a dress which complimented them.

THE FLOWERS | Fiori e Piante Veri.

The theme of my wedding flowers was pastel pinks with lavender which complemented the midnight blue bridesmaids. I desired to have a wedding smell of lemons and lavender. Therefore the bride bouquet and buttonholes contained lavender. Each tea light at the wedding had lavender and lemon candles. To this day when I smell the scent of these candles it brings me back to my wedding day.

THE CAKE AND FOOD | Il Plantina.

Food was a big part of my wedding. If you’re getting married in Italy then food has to be a big part of your wedding. We had a five course meal which was made with only local produce from that area. The cake was an Italian inspired fruit cake with a mix of what the Italian called American style cake. The sponge was lemon, which followed our theme throughout.

I saved money on my cake as I still wanted the big show stopper but as I had a limited amount of mouths to feed I asked it to be made of part sponge and part polystyrene.  I still laugh to this day when I think of me and my partner trying to cut the cake and find which layer was sponge and which layer was polystyrene.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER |  Emotionttl.

My photographer was the biggest inspiration of my whole wedding. I found them though their own photography blog and instantly fell in love with their art of capturing peoples big day. They not only loved photography, but LOVED weddings! They were able to give me so much help when I struggled to find vendors. Who else is better to ask advice than people who attend a wedding weekly!

They never missed a moment of the day and when looking through my wedding photographs I can relive each and every second of the day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I wanted my wedding to be very romantic and pink. I had installed LED pink lighting throughout the castle, which at night turned the castle a romantic pink colour. Each table contained a wireless pink light, which made each table glow pink.

My table lay out was in a half moon shape, which was ideal to see all my guests when seated. This I felt gave a more intimate feel to the wedding. I also had tall clear glass centrepieces with flowers high on top so each person would see across their table.

THE HONEYMOON | Florida, December 2nd – we’re huge Christmas people!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | I guess like any bride, my wedding day is a day I will never forget. What I love most is that it was differently a day my guests will never let me forget! Still now nearly a year on my friends and family always talk about their Italian experience! What more could a bride ask for!

What is funny is that when you have planned your big day for so long and organised every small detail on the day you feel like you are reliving an event which has already taken place. Like a book which you have already read. For me this happened!

One of my personal favourite moments when my husband and I opened and poured prosecco in a glass tower. It was such a lovely experience to pour the drinks which my guests would drink during our wedding speeches.

What I love is that every moment of my day was captured in photographs, which when I look at them will show me a day which was everything I could have ever wished for.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | My biggest advice for a wedding abroad would be that if you’re organised then plan it yourself. Wedding planners are expensive and for me I felt my wedding would have lost its personal touch if we had someone else plan our big day.

Instagram and social media blogging accounts were a huge inspiration to me. I spent hours scrolling through wedding photographs for ideas for my own. I would recommend all brides to do this! This is one of the ways I found my vendors.

If your photographer offers engagement shoots, this is something I would 100% recommend doing. We were able to learn how to take direction from our photographer, which on the big day really helped speed up this process. As ,let’s face it, we’re all not cut out to be models and no one wants to spend their entire wedding day stuck in front of a camera.

Best advice I was given was to try and take in the day as much as possible as it happens too quickly. Taking a step back and take in “your” day. You can only have this day once! Make the most of it.
