This morning is all about glamour, with a wedding filled to the brim with gorgeous pink and antique gold details.
Karen and Adrian married on the 28th September 2013 at Spains Hall, Essex. They were in safe hands with wedding planner Bernadette from Dream Occasions on board to ensure everything ran smoothly. Karen and Adrian’s two sons were involved in the day, handing out the order of service and reading during the ceremony. I so love their cute bow tie and gingham outfits too.
Karen looked stunning in a lace Inbal Dror dress, while the bridesmaids were pretty in pink. Oh and there were beautiful David Austin roses.
Thanks so much to Kerry Morgan for sharing her lovely images with us today.
The Proposal… We got engaged on Christmas day (2012) with the whole family there. Adrian had a present for me to open before any others were dished out, so I was sat there with the whole circle of family around me all very curious (only my parents and Adrian’s knew what was going on), while I struggled with the ribbon on a massive box. Inside that were 2 more boxes before I finally got to the main event. At the point where I saw the small box, I knew what was about to happen and was crying before he said anything.
The Vision for the Day… I wanted a lace vintage style dress but I wanted the overall feel of the wedding to be glamorous and sumptuous, so I decided to go for a glamorous vintage look rather than a more garden party vintage. The pink and antique gold colour combination worked really well for that.
The Planning Process… As we run our own business and Adrian is out of the country a lot we decided to hire a wedding planner to help us with the planning. Bernadette understood exactly what I wanted and made it happen
The Venue… Spains Hall, Finchingfield, Essex. Bernadette was showing us around some of her recommended venues, Spains Hall was the last one and the minute I walked into the house I knew this was the one. The mix of traditional in the house, to modern in the Elizabethan Hall, worked perfectly for our theme.
The Dress + Accessories… Dress & Veil – Inbal Dror, Morgan Davies Bridal London.
Hair – I had pretty short hair when Adrian proposed so I grew it as long as I could in the 9 months I had, which meant that I was limited with what I could do and the accessories I could use. So in the end I just went for something simple with pearl beads twisted into the curls at the back.
Jewellery – My necklace and earrings I got from Morgan Davies Bridal, they were a beautiful vintage style set that went well with the dress. My shoes were my something old as I had a gold pair that I loved and could dance all night in.
Finding the Dress… I loved the fact that it was all lace and so elegant but with the low back and the beading it was still glamorous. I didn’t want a big dress with a wide skirt and I didn’t want strapless but I did still want to feel like there was loads of beautiful fabric swishing around me as I moved.
Groom’s Attire… David Newell. David made Adrian and Pete’s shirts, and pocket squares and also cufflinks that matched the suits. Pete Gray was our best man and he was in a David Newell suit as well.
The Readings + Music… All I Ever Needed To Know I Learnt At Kindergarten by Robert Fulgham read by our boys. We wanted the boys to have a part in the ceremony and the Kindergarten reading is perfect for a child to read. We had both boys splitting the reading between them and it was both emotional and funny at the same time.
Extract from the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams read by a friend. The Velveteen Rabbit reading I chose because I have always loved the story and the words are so very true.
The recessional was Gonna Fly Now – Bill Conti and the processional was Canon in D.
Beautiful Bridesmaids… Shoes – Kurt Geiger. Dresses – BCBGMAXAZRIA. Flowergirl – Next. Page boy/ young ushers Next and Verbaudet.
Bridesmaids Other Accessories – John Lewis. We went for a very simple antique gold pearl necklace, earing and bracelet set.
Wedding Rings – A jeweller local to us in Hertford made our rings, Adrian had been away on business for most of the 2 months leading up to the wedding, so getting the rings sorted was one of the last things that we did! Literally 2 days before the wedding. They were made for us by Sal at Hert of Gold.
The Flowers…I originally wanted vintage pink peonies but they were not in bloom at the time of our wedding so Beverly (Jades Flowers) suggested the David Austin roses, which were a beautiful compromise. We went with the purple Calla Lilly as the accent flower, to pick up on the purple that was in my brooch bouquet.
The Cake… My cake was a take on vintage hat boxes again just following on with the glam vintage theme. I saw a similar cake in a magazine and just loved the overall look of it. It had one gorgeous blue hat box which I liked as it gave a nice break from the pink and gold colours everywhere else.
Your Photographer… Bernadette showed me images from a few photographers but I fell in love with Kerry instantly, she was the first person we confirmed after the venue.
The Details + Decor… When Bernadette showed me the work of Kristy Rice I was bowled over, I loved the intricate designs, I felt it was perfect for our wedding design.
Strawberry & Champagne mini jam from were the favours as the groom is from Tiptree. The brides Mother sourced gold favour boxes and beautiful pink satin ribbon to present them in.
We used Mediterranean Occasions for the beautiful backdrop behind the top table, the crystal chandeliers lining the path and the French glass candlesticks on the table
We hired in the pink damask linen to lift the colour scheme for the wedding. The vintage crockery was hired in from The Crockery Cupboard and they were very accommodating with us requesting primarily the gold and/or pink ranges! The glassware, cutlery and chargers were from Couvert.
The Honeymoon… Although I hate flying we decided to go to Australia for our honeymoon because we both love scuba diving and we have a large circle of friends there that we haven’t seen for years and who weren’t able to make it to the wedding. So we spent 2 weeks on Hamilton Island, followed by a week in the Outback and then 4 days in Sydney catching up with our friends who had flown in from all over Australia and New Zealand for the big reunion. It was utterly fabulous and other than the 9 flights I endured we loved every second of our honeymoon.
Memorable Moments… My mother gave me away, as my father was very elderly and was in a wheel chair for the wedding. It meant a lot for both my mother and myself that she gave me away. Sadly my Father passed away at the early part of this year, so it was extra special that he was able to be there at my wedding just 4 months earlier.
The first dance was I’m Kissing You by Des’Ree. It’s one of Adrian’s favourite songs.
Saying ‘I do’ because everything else aside, as beautiful as everything else was, actually becoming Adrian’s wife was more important than anything else.
Advice for Other Couples… Wish I’d not worried so much about whether everyone would have a good time. Bernadette had everything under control!
Stress less; enjoy more…because when all is said and done the most important thing is actually getting married. Everything else is a bonus and with a fabulous wedding planner (like I had) the bonus will be just perfect
