Today’s bride loves Peonies so much so that she chose their wedding date to coincide with Peony season. And who can blame her, those fluffy stems are just one of my very favourites too.
Ali and Jaime chose to get married on the 18th June 2016 at Losehill House Hotel and Spa in Derbyshire and enlisted the brilliant WWW Supplier Love members HBA Photography to capture every moment. The focus of their day was on fun and of course all the things they love. So there were plenty of bikes in the details and decoration and of course those Peonies. I especially love the butchers bike restored by Jaime which was then filled with fresh blooms, it made for a really special touch.
Ali chose to wear Charlotte Balbier‘s Marnie, which has the most beautiful back detail, teamed with the sparkliest Jimmy Choo heels ever. Jaime wore a vibrant blue suit and grey check waistcoat for a contrast and the cute pageboys coordinated perfectly. Utterly gorgeous.
Huge thanks to HBA Photography for sharing these epic images with us.
THE PROPOSAL | Canary Islands December 2014.
THE VISION | Relaxed, fun and all things me and Jaime love.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We fell in love instantly with the venue, and everything else then fell into place. The venue is amazing and very close to our hearts being in the middle of the peak district, had an amazing outdoorsy feel to it which is just what we wanted. It was so easy to plan the rest around that.
BUDGET | £20,000
THE VENUE | Losehill House Hotel & Spa, Hope, Derbyshire.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Charlotte Balbier, Marnie and Jimmy Choo Agnes coarse glitter shoes. Real roses in my hair.
FINDING THE DRESS | Emily Bridal one sunny Saturday in June 2015 with my best friend (bridesmaid), sister and my mum. I’d decided I’d like lace but never dreamed to be in something so fitted. After feeling like I was ‘settling’ for another dress I went off for lunch whilst Emily saw her next appointment, telling me to come back later that afternoon (even though it was her wedding anniversary and her little boy was ill at home). After a bottle of wine (or 2) I admitted that I didn’t feel liked I’d tried on enough and steered the appointment solely to lace. I went back and told Emily to put me in ‘everything’, she did. Some were awful on and we quickly got through dress after dress. One neckline style that I’d not tried on before lunch struck a chored but the dress wasn’t complimentary, Emily then went a fetched a dress that was on the model on the stairs that we’d walked past 3 time, I put it on and fell in love with it. The model on the stairs did not show off the back off the dress and this to me was the most beautiful part. I’m not a girl that likes to look at myself in the mirror but when I saw my face was smiling I knew this was the one, that and my mum was blubbering away in a corner. It needed no accessories, it spoke for itself and it was so flattering. I still wish I could wear this dress every day as felt like a million dollars in it.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | French Connection, colour French navy. Peter Posh grey tweed waistcoats. Swagger & Swoon skinny ivory tie and handkerchief. Aldo tan shoes.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Annies Song – John Denver, always loved these words to this song, grown up with my mum listening to John Denver. This song has also been a song played a grandparents funerals, without being morbid this song means a lot to our family and it was also my way of having them in my thoughts on the day. The first reading was one of my dear dear friends Nikki Harriss and she did a much loved, now framed and always cherished personalised reading. The other reading was one of Jaime’s closest friends James Forbes, once again had us laughing throughout and so accurate.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Gael Cornwell wearing Dessy bridesmaid.
THE FLOWERS | Tracey Campbell, Campbells Flowers Sheffield. The most amazing flowers, they were such an important part of my day. Growing up surrounded by flowers and my mum doing flower arrangements, the love has been passed on. The peony curtain was just fantastic.
THE CAKE | Sugar Pod Cakery, Melbourne, Derby (lemon drizzle, carrot cake, chocolate orange tiers – all gluten free).
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | HBA Photography, Doveridge. What can I say about Ben and Hannah, they are just amazing. I’d seen a list of attendees at the Osmaston Park Wedding Fayre and did a bit of research, as soon as I saw their website I knew they were photographers I wanted, their style was exactly what I was looking for. This was more re-enforced when I met Hannah on the day at the Fayre, so friendly and easy going. Hannah kept in touch all the way from the booking up to the day, and on the day they turned up early to catch Jaime out on his mountain bike. Neither Jaime nor I are people who like, or are used to having our photos taken, but Hannah and Ben were just so much fun and so relaxed it made it so easy. During the build-up, the ceremony, the photo’s after, the breakfast and the first dance, they were always there laughing and joking with you, but never imposing. We have now seen their final photos and I don’t have enough kind words to say about them or to them. The photos and the memories they have given us are extraordinary, they are the best wedding photos I have ever seen.
One final thing, you simply must must get Ben to play the saxophone during the wedding breakfast, he is one very very talented man (musically and photography wise). The sound was amazing, the atmosphere it created was sensational. So many people have commented about how good he was, I am just so pleased we asked him to do it.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I’ve grown up around flowers with my mum doing flower arranging as a child. My favourite flowers are peonies and the reason I got married in June so I could have them. I’d searched peony wedding flowers on Pinterest and seen the idea for the floral curtain, I showed this to Tracey at Campbells flowers and she was as excited by the idea as me, she knew the venue at Losehill and knew this could work. Jaime is a massive bike lover and I thought a butchers bike with floral arrangement at the entrance would be very ‘us’. The butchers bike was bought as a run down rust bucket from eBay and lovingly restored by Jaime, my mum arranged the flowers and my brother in law did the sign writing. The stepped table plan was another idea of Pinterest and I stole my dad’s ‘old as me’ decorating steps and gave them a lick of paint, my mum once again did a few floral arrangements for me and we clipped the table numbers to ribbon.
Also as a last minute addition we arranged Escapade 7 & Fleye Aerial to film our wedding day, one of the guys went out mountain biking with Jaime in the morning, the other was with me in the room. They were great, we didn’t even know they were around and the footage they took with sounds clips was just amazing. I’m so pleased that we decided to go for this at the last minute, I was worried it would be a cheesy video like you used to see back in the 90’s, but this footage is just fantastic and 5 minute clip they pulled together for us, that summed up the whole day.
THE HONEYMOON | Riveria Maya, Mexico (5* all inclusive, adults only hotel) for a chilled out holiday with a bit of scuba diving which we both love, a bit of kite surfing for Jaime who will get itchy feet before me about laying on a beach for 2 weeks. We fly out the following day on our return home to La Thuile, Italy for Jaime to compete in the World Enduro Mountain Bike Series for 4 days. Jaime considers this the main honeymoon, I consider this an added bonus.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Every little bit was memorable, it honestly was the best day of our lives and I never thought I’d say that.
Best best best bits, the readings during the ceremony, the speeches (all of them dad, Jaime and the best man’s). The saxophone during the wedding breakfast, a last minute addition but was just perfect.
Most comical moment my parents teaming up with the band, my dad taking Jaime off for a ‘quiet whiskey’, but really making him get dressed up in a full on Elvis suit and the band playing with Jaime singing 2 live songs.
Another moment I’ll never forget is stood talking to friends at the bar and looking across the dance floor and seeing the whole room bobbing up and down and the dance floor bounding. The band were amazing!
Lastly my sneak preview from HBA and video from Escapade 7 & Fleye Aerial Filmography, seeing so much more from the wedding than I saw on the day.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | I panicked so much that my decorations, entertainment etc. just wouldn’t be enough and I needed more. No need, for me the venue had so much to offer by itself so very little needed doing, I didn’t want fuss, I wanted natural and it looked amazing on the day. I know people say this I never understood it really until after, but just enjoy every little moment as it is just fantastic to have so many of your close family and friends around you.
