Take me to the woods now. How dreamy is the above image? Just you wait until you see the whole wedding in all it’s glory then…
Matthew and Fiona were hitched on the 24th October 2016 at WWW Supplier Love members, Camp Katur in North Yorkshire. The venue is undoubtedly magical, it’s no wonder the couple booked it for the celebrations. They held their ceremony in the open woodland, before hosting a 18th century outdoor banquet next to a camp fire. They then headed to the rustic barn for the party and guests stayed in the remarkable glamping village.
The autumn colour palette of reds and oranges worked beautifully. The bridesmaids wore long lace dresses, the blooms were in fact artificial and the décor was hand made. Bride Fiona looked so pretty in her chosen dress, a tulle and lace number by Mori Lee, which she accessorised with a cosy fur shrug. Matthew meanwhile opted for a custom made tweed suit teamed with feather bow tie and buttonhole. Amaze!
Thanks so much to Toast of Leeds for sharing these utterly brilliant images with us.
THE PROPOSAL | I remember we went away for the weekend to London and Matthew said he needed to just pop off to meet a friend for an hour alone, at the time I thought it was a bit odd but thought no further about it! Matthew returned an hour later and we continued on with our day as normal. It now turns out he was going to collect the ring he had ordered through a jewellers.
So on the evening of the proposal Matthew was acting a little odd, came home from work and said lets go out for dinner to the place where we went on our first date (Chevin Lodge), not that Matthew knew it was a date, but just dinner as friends, as we have known each other since were 11 years old. In hindsight he should have clicked as we had hung out three times that week alone, about the same amount of times we had always done in the average year before this. So we headed off to the pub, which is on top of Otley Chevin, well known for its stunning walks and long beautiful views over the rolling hills of the North Yorkshire Dales. On this particular night there was due to be a high chance of seeing shooting stars as we remember reading it in the paper. As we got on top of the Chevin, it suddenly became very apparent, it was very foggy; heavy, thick dense fog, the sort you can only see 2 feet in front of you! As we drove down Matthew pulled into a carpark anyway, and asked me to get out, I did, at this point he proposed to me, we did have to get back in the car so I could see the ring! I won’t go into too much details, somethings are better just kept between the two of you. We continued on and went out for our meal, now as an engaged couple….
THE VISION | 18th century outdoor banquet, ceremony held in the middle of the woods. Reception held in a rustic barn. We got all of that and so much more at Camp Katur.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Planning a wedding is so much bigger than you can possibly comprehend. Start as early as possibly, keep a file, and remember spreadsheets are your friends.
BUDGET | Proposed budget – £16,000 / Actual – £27,000.
THE VENUE | Camp Katur, Bedale, North Yorkshire.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Mori Lee by Madeline Gardner dress accessorised with gold embellished belt, tiara and fur shawl. All supplied by Ava Rose Hamilton.
FINDING THE DRESS | This was easy as my sister Helen was due to get married three months before myself and Matthew and found her dress at the amazing Ava Rose Hamilton, Silsden so this was my first port of call. The whole experience I received was fantastic, I bought the first dress I tried on, however, this was after trying on about another then, some just because they were so ridiculous…
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Tailor made 3 piece tweed suit, cream shirt, handmade peacock feather bow tie and lapel, pocket watch (gift from Fiona to Matthew).
Music – I walked down the aisle to Birdie, Wings.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Four bridesmaids – Helen, Charlotte, Laura, Kate all dressed in burgundy full length dresses from Confetti and Lace, Leeds, wellington boots and home made artificial flower bouquets.
THE FLOWERS | Handmade bouquets with artificial flowers made by Fiona with the goods bought from Country Baskets.
THE CAKE | Home made by my sister-in-law (to be) Laura Galvin. Brandy enriched fruit cake base with suede effect icing, second layer was Alabama chocolate fudge cake with a gold leaf icing. Topped with bride and groom chickens.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Toast of Leeds / Lawson Films – cannot recommend them enough, they are both just so unbelievably talented.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Woodland creatures / Autumnal colours and features. Fire pits and hay bales / hog roast and butternut squash and feta tarts / Leg fire in open meadow after ceremony. Hand crafted love hearts with all the material bought from the silk markets of Jaipur, India.
THE HONEYMOON | Iceland – 5 days over Christmas – We decided we wanted somewhere cold, plus as I am a teacher, we can only have holiday’s in term time! So the next one after October was the Christmas break. This was the first time we had booked a package holiday as we are both used to just booking independently and backpacking our way around countries. The whole experience was pleasant, although not sure we are quite ready for package holiday’s just yet! Whilst in Iceland we were denied the chance to see the aurora borealis, even though we went out twice! We did though have the most romantic evening at the natural wonder that is ‘The Blue Lagoons’, relaxing with champagne in hot pools with the snow pouring down on us. We also went to see the white wall, otherwise known where the tectonic plates meet, and the amazing natural geezers.
The whole country is from a geography perspective is simply amazing, we were in our element for the whole trip. Having only 4 hours of daylight at this time of year, it finally gave Matthew and I, some well-deserved relaxation time together.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | As this was a three day festival style wedding, where we had guests staying in tepees, wooden lodges and glass cabins looking up at the stars the whole experience was one big memorable moment. But, to mention a few that stand out – Matthew’s best friend Rupert carried out the ceremony and married us. He did try and marry Matthew off to my sister by saying her name ‘Helen’ instead of mine! When we kissed each other at the end of the ceremony before Rupert said so, he then completed the ceremony off after this by laughing and saying ‘You may now kiss the bride’, to which we gladly did again. The best man forgetting the rings until Matthew said two minutes before the ceremony “you have the rings, don’t you?” His response “ ermm, no, you have them don’t you?” to this point the best man Mark Boughen ran off and returned a few moments late, just in time!
The private little moments that Matthew and I had with Shelly, Toast of Leeds, Laura and Peter, Lawson Films. They made us feel so special and we just laughed all day long with them.
Irish dancing, lots of Irish dancing with all of Matthew’s family.
On the night of the wedding Matthew and I went back to our cabin after seeing all the guests off, when we got there, Helen my sister had very kindly put the fire on for us, turned out this didn’t ignite properly, so just had gas pumping out. The whole cabin had to be aired before we could get in. Matthew and I had a lovely albeit very cold 30 minutes under the stars in the woods, giggling that if we didn’t wake up after a day like today it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to go out on!
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | If you push yourself to plan it, then the day will run itself. Keep stuff between you and your partner, people can be quite opinionated of what you’re doing, even if they mean it in the nicest way. Remember your wedding isn’t to everybody’s taste, but it does need to be yours. If you love it, in the end they will too.
