Navy & Yellow Sunflowers Brewery Wedding

This simple, pretty sunflower filled celebration will leave you filled with joy today.

Lucy and Dave were married on Saturday 14th May at Sewerby Hall followed by a reception at Wold Top Brewery in Yorkshire. They loved the quirkiness of the brewery and it influenced the fun favours whilst still being true to themselves. Their main vision was to hold a relaxed and informal celebration with their nearest and dearest. Sunflowers were also top of the list for Lucy and they used the big bright blooms throughout. The navy attire worked so well against the pops of yellow and I just love those ASOS bridesmaid frocks.

Lucy chose to wear a strapless gown and classic veil which looked sensational. Didn’t she make the most beautiful bride? Bunting, beer and love all round.

Thanks so much to Jemma King for sharing these wonderful shots with us.

THE VISION | We wanted to have an informal, relaxed celebration with the people we loved most in the world.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We should have been far more organised and a lot of things were last minute decisions, but it all came together! By far the best part of the planning process was the food tasting. We didn’t want a formal sit down meal but more of a social, rustic, family-style approach. Sam and the team from Bear’s Pantry more than fulfilled this brief. The food was delicious, exciting and the style in which it was served (sharing serving platters) contributed to the relaxed atmosphere that we hoped for.

THE VENUE | Sewerby Hall, Bridlington (Wedding Ceremony)

Wold Top Brewery, Hunmanby (Venue)

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I found my dress and veil in the bridal shop To Have and To Hold. The team there were so helpful and were able to adapt the dress to how I wanted it. For example, Jenny from To Have and To Hold made a small pocket on the inside of the dress (left hand side) so I could have my grandmothers wedding ring close to my heart throughout the day. Those little touches meant so much to me and my family.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | The decision regarding the groom and ushers attire was left completely to the groom. In keeping with our more relaxed, informal approach to the wedding he decided to choose a dark blue suit from Slaters. We didn’t have a set colour scheme, the colour of the tie was more accidental after walking into a shop and the tie catching our eye!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I wanted to make sure that all of my bridesmaids looked beautiful and felt comfortable on the day. The bridesmaids were key in deciding the dresses that they wanted to wear. I didn’t have any particular style in mind and very much left it to the bridesmaids to share what style they would like to wear. One of my favourite colours is navy and I thought that colour would complement the sunflowers perfectly. We found the dresses online at ASOS and all of the bridesmaids loved them!

THE FLOWERS | One of the only things that I (as the bride) wanted for the day was the inclusion of my favourite flowers which are big, bright sunflowers. For our table decorations, we wanted mason jars with small but bright flowers. Faye from The Flower Shop was brilliant at listening to what we had already planned for the day and we left it in their creative hands!

THE CAKE | We decided to have a cheese and pork pie cake, which was quickly demolished by our guests.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We wanted someone who could capture the moments and atmosphere of our day in a natural, unobtrusive way. We did not want any staged or forced shots but more a relaxed approach and to have someone to be a part of the day. Our photographer, Jemma, was absolutely fantastic and captured our day perfectly. One of our favourite moments was an impromptu group shot, where guests took a picture of the group and then joined the group, for this process to be repeated for the next person. Jemma became part of this and as per the rules, took a picture and then joined the group for the next person’s picture!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Anne and the team at Muddy Souls Events were so helpful in supporting us in getting the day how we wanted it and tailored it perfectly to our wishes. One of the main things that drew us to the venue, other than being a brewery (!) was the flexibility and different styles that every wedding has there. We wanted to make sure our day reflected the things that were important and make it unique for us. For example, we were able to design the label on our bottles of beer which were the favours at our wedding so we were able to tie this in with a long running joke that we share with our friends and family. We also wanted to let everyone know how much we care about them and how grateful we were for them coming to share our celebration. So we tried to include small but thoughtful (and inexpensive!) touches such as writing an individual memory that we shared with that guest on the person’s place card.

THE HONEYMOON | Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Every single moment! A special moment for us was when we took some time out with our photographer after the evening guests had arrived to have some pictures over the field at sunset. I think this enabled us to take stock, enjoy the moment and spend some quality time together to take in what had happened throughout the day (as well as an opportunity to have some pictures taken surrounded by the beautiful scenery).

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | It is very rare to have an opportunity where you are surrounded by all the people who you love most and value in one place together at the same time, where everyone is there to celebrate with you. Our advice would be to cherish this experience, enjoy every moment and go with the flow. The small details at that point in time do not matter. Take time to soak in the amazing atmosphere and make time with your other half on the day!
