Natural & Ethereal Purple Floral Wedding

Natural Ethereal Purple Wedding http://www.katherineashdown.co.uk/

I don’t know about you, but boy do I LOVE flowers. I always say if I wasn’t a wedding blogger, I’d love to train as a florist. I do try and dabble in the garden and grow my own blooms too. I think you can tell that I have a real love affair with gorgeous florals… So when I clapped eyes on this flower filled pretty purple affair I fell head over heels.

WWW readers Anouska and Daniel were married on the 13th July at Woodhall Manor in Suffolk. They hoped to create an ethereal and natural day which in fact turned fairy feel throughout. The prettiest purple blooms were used everywhere, including meadow-like ceremony décor and huge wild bouquets tied with ribbons.

Anouska chose an elegant gown adorned with appliqué flowers and she added a circlet to her up do. Daniel meanwhile opted for a grey suit and lilac bow tie which tied in perfectly with the bridesmaid dresses.

Thanks so much to Katherine Ashdown Photography for sharing these beautiful images with us.

THE PROPOSAL | A surprise trip to Paris, and the perfect ring. It was a complete surprise!

THE VISION | Intimate and relaxed, with unique touches and a natural, ethereal feel.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We started off with a list of what we did/didn’t want for all aspects of the day. Instantly ruled out were the speeches and the first dance. There would be quite enough eyes on us already! Instead we opted for some fun entertainment to make sure our guests were always amused. During the day we had the Curiovan, a mobile curiosity museum full of wonderfully macabre exhibits, along with garden games. In the evening, we had archery which was provided by Big Fun UK, the magician Jasz Vegas, fire performance group Pyrohex and a display from from Dynamic Fireworks. I focused on getting dresses, flowers and a photographer first. Daniel arranged the entertainment mentioned above, along with the suits and remained a much-needed calming influence throughout the process!

THE VENUE | Woodhall Manor. Planning an intimate wedding for 30 guests, it was difficult finding somewhere small which was still beautiful. I also dreamt of an outdoor ceremony, surrounded by flowers. I saw an advert for Woodhall Manor, and stopped by one evening with my parents. Even in the rain, it was gorgeous – the manor house was just the right size for our guests, it felt homely, the gardens were beautiful and it offered the option of an outdoor ceremony. Luckily, unlike the purely outdoor options I had looked into, you could move the ceremony indoors if the weather was wet. This ended up being just what we needed on our warm, but slightly drizzly, wedding day!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was from Jacka Gowns in Norwich and my circlet was from The Honeycomb on Etsy. I loved the floral details on my dress, and the way the appliqué flowers and vines looked like they were growing all over the dress. I adamantly didn’t want any sparkle, but found that I loved the subtle sequins – a little touch of magic! My circlet perfectly echoed the appliqué on my dress, and the trailing ribbons were perfection.

FINDING THE DRESS | My dad actually found my dress! He first saw it in the shop window, thinking that it looked like what I had been describing – and he was right! I made an appointment, and saved “the dress” until last. When I tried it on, I ended up keeping the shop owner there well past closing. I couldn’t take my eyes off my transformation into a fairy/elf queen!

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Daniel and his best man, Chris, got their suits from Suit Supply in London. As surprise, he had a lilac lining added to his to match the colour scheme! Their shirts were Ted Baker, and the ties and pocket squares were a last minute online purchase. Luckily they were exactly the right shade!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | For the ceremony, we had Moonlight Sonata (movement 1) by Beethoven for the entrance, Ára Batúr by Sigúr Ros for signing the register and exited to Variations on the Kanon by Pachelbel by George Winston. We chose just one reading, a passage from Plato’s Symposium.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My bridesmaids, Jen and Emily, wore dresses from Jane Norman. I had actually seen the dress in the shop window before I even asked them to be my bridesmaids, and knew they would be perfect – floaty, feminine and floral. They looked beautiful!

THE FLOWERS | Jo Flowers. I found Jo through Katherine’s (our photographer) brides group. I fell in love with the soft, natural, “just picked” style of her creations. Our consultation confirmed that she shared my vision, and I could not be more happy with what she created for us. The plan was for there to be flowers running down our outdoor aisle, like a meadow. When the ceremony was moved indoors, Jo went the extra mile to make sure the arrangements looked stunning in their new positions. It felt as though the outdoors had been brought indoors, and the rooms were brimming with flowers!

THE CAKE | Eventiss Wedding Cakes. We wanted a three-tier wedding cake, even though it only needed to feed 30. Kelly made us a miniature three-tier cake, so it would look stunning without any waste. We couldn’t choose just one flavour, so had both lemon and chocolate fudge. It was beautiful and absolutely delicious!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Katherine Ashdown Photography. We chose Katherine because we felt that her style would perfectly compliment our vision of the day. Her images are ethereal, full of light, with plenty of wonderful “real” moments. We knew that we could trust her to capture all the most important moments and create some beautiful art for our walls! Through her brides group, I got lots of support and advice. Her knowledge of wedding day timings really helped everything to run smoothly, making sure we got all the images we wanted.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | One of the things I most liked about Woodhall Manor is that the manor house is beautiful even without any decoration. Therefore, the only décor was Jo’s stunning floral arrangements.

THE HONEYMOON | Mexico. We wanted somewhere warm, where we could jet off and relax after the wedding. Mexico was perfect for July, because the weather was great. We loved the culture, the food, and I got to live out my dream of swimming with dolphins!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Far too many to mention! But in the final few weeks before the wedding Daniel organised for Pyrohex, a fire performance group, and Jasz Vegas, a magician to perform in the evening. Both were incredible and it was great to have something which reflected our tastes, as opposed to dancing, for the evening entertainment. I was actually concerned there would be too much going on, as we already had fireworks, archery and the Curiovan booked, but it was absolutely perfect and made the day truly “ours.”

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | There are no rules – if you don’t want to do something, don’t! It’s your day, and it’s important that you enjoy it. Don’t worry about the weather either. I spent far too many hours refreshing the met office app in the run up to the wedding. In the end it did drizzle, but it totally didn’t matter! Oh, and take a leaf out of my husband’s book and chill out – it’ll all be just fine!
