Modern & Rustic Ivory Barn Wedding

Modern Rustic Ivory Barn Wedding http://vickylamburn.com/

What happens when modern aesthetics meet rustic touches and a delightful ivory colour scheme? Pure magic of course!

WWW readers Illy and Robert tied the knot on the 2nd October 2016 at Southend Barns in West Sussex. Illy was more than qualified to plan the day of their dreams as she is a wedding planner (Illy Elizabeth Weddings). Her knowledge, experience and skill ensured their day was perfect, plus they already had the venue in mind and which suppliers they needed. Her stylish eye brought together the loveliest of touches in the barn. From hessian laden tables, with log slices, blooms in bottles to quizzes for the guests and pretty paper from WWW faves norma&dorothy. She also successfully incorporated Robert’s motorcycle hobby with a motorcycle themed table plan and a real vintage motorcycle for their divine portraits.

Robert’s dashing suit was from Next, which he teamed with tan shoes and an ivory tie, which coordinated with the bridesmaids. Illy meanwhile chose a romantic gown by Pronovias and selected bridal shoes by Irregular Choice, plus a sparkly handmade belt. Oh so stunning.

Victoria JK Lamburn, thank you so much for sharing these incredible photographs today.

THE PROPOSAL | Central Park, New York. The proposal happened on the 21st February 2015 on a very cold winters day in NYC. It happened in Central Park as we walked to a quiet nearby bench where not only was I presented with a ring but rose petals were thrown over me!

THE VISION | The vision was to incorporate a vintage motorcycle theme into the wedding as my husband races motorcycles as his hobby. This has always been part of our lives together so was important it would fit in with our wedding. We had a motorcycle themed table plan and a real vintage motorcycle at the wedding, which was used in many of our photographs. My love of rustic themed weddings relates to the type of weddings I plan for other brides on a regular basis.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | As a wedding planner myself, the whole process was relatively calming and easy to do. I knew what venue I wanted, what suppliers were needed and this made the experience very pleasant for me overall. I wanted a completely ivory colour theme but incorporated pastel shoes for my bridesmaid to add some colour. It was important for me to keep my guests entertained throughout the whole day, so finding a really good rock band and face painter for the children was my main priority!

BUDGET | £15,000

THE VENUE | Southend Barns was always the venue we wanted. It was a shabby chic barn but modern décor which was what we wanted. We didn’t want it too rustic, but had a modern rustic element to it.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My wedding dress was Pronovias and had a handmade belt detail added by Leonie Claire Bridal in Brighton. My shoes had to be Irregular Choice and were from their bridal collection. I wanted princess shoes and that is what I got!

FINDING THE DRESS | I had in mind that I wanted a Pronovias gown for some time. It was just a case of finding a boutique that featured these dresses. I wanted a simple gown with no details on it. I managed to find Leonie Claire in Brighton, which featured the Pronovias range.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | My husband’s suit was from Next. We wanted to make sure it was a skinny fit to look smart and tailored. We were not fussed about spending too much of the budget on this, so kept costs minimal. It was a three piece navy suit and he wore tan shoes to compliment the look. His tie was ivory to match the bridesmaid dresses.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Throughout the ceremony we played Disney music in a piano version and the song I walked up the aisle to was A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. In the evening we had a fabulous band called Permeggedon, which played 80’s rock music!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had my sister-in-law Katy, she was a fabulous help on the day and throughout planning the wedding. My cousin Tina was my chief bridesmaid and helped keep the family dramas at bay! I also had my other cousin Leah and my wonderful younger sister Zsofia. They all looked stunning.

THE FLOWERS | As my colour theme was ivory and my favourite flowers are gerberas I really wanted to incorporate the two into my bouquets. I wanted a rustic looking bouquet so my florist added in some extra foliage, which really followed with the theme of the barn. The final bouquet was white gerberas and roses combined.

THE CAKE | The wedding cake was made by my wonderful mother-in-law Madeline. The cake topper was ordered online as we really wanted something different and elegant. We HAD to have carrot cake as this is our ultimate favourite. The bottom tier was fruit, the middle two were carrot and the top tier was a madeira sponge. As my husband has a nut allergy, the fruit cake had a white chocolate covering instead of a marzipan. Finished off with burlap and fresh flowers, this cake really made the day.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | I knew what I wanted with my photographer and it was fine art wedding photography. We put the search into google and Vicky Lamburn came up. Her photos were beautiful and exactly what we wanted. It was important for the vintage motorcycle to be reflected in the photos, and having a fine art photographer really helped bring the vintage motorcycle to life. We had some beautiful shots done with the motorcycle, it was all just stunning. Vicky knew how to make us feel relaxed and best poses to get into. She really did an amazing job.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | All the table décor was hand made by myself. I borrowed the wooden slabs from a friend, the glass jars and bottles were created by myself. We decided on a motorcycle themed table plan, which would be designed on a step ladder. The ladder was hired by To Have & To Hire, where we also hired our beautiful drapes in our ceremony room. I had made origami cootie catchers on the table for guests to play whilst the food was being brought out, I also had fun questionnaires for people to fill out. We had beautiful fans for the ceremony room which were hand made by myself and my cousin Helen. My stationery was designed by Norma & Dorothy who offer rustic wedding stationery designs. I actually found them through etsy originally. Their work was amazing and I loved everything they had designed for our invites.

THE HONEYMOON | We dreamed of going to Mexico, so that’s where we went! Two days after the wedding we flew out to hot sunshine and amazing views. We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, which was all inclusive with cocktails and food on tap. We were in bliss, the food, the culture and the people were all so amazing. For my husband’s wedding present I brought him a sky dive in Mexico, which he thoroughly enjoyed!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Our sausage dog Buzz was an important part of our day and myself messing up my vows was a brilliant part of the day too. Instead of saying “I take you to be my husband” I said “I take you to be my wife”. I had already had a few too many Proseccos by this point so couldn’t stop laughing on the floor!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Try to do an event the day after where you can speak to your guests. The day goes by so quickly that you just don’t have the time to enjoy yourself fully as you are so busy. An on-the-day coordinator can make your day stress-free but this doesn’t stop you from being super busy. Photos take up a big part of the day, so remember to relax and take some time to breathe when you do this. Also, save yourself some wedding cake in advance as all of ours went!
