Low Key Pastel Seaside Wedding

Thanks to this gorgeous, fresh, seaside wedding I am dreaming of Summer and beach holidays this afternoon. This lovely pair chose the most scenic and picturesque of settings, just you wait…

WWW readers Simon and Sophie tied the knot on the 28th May 2016 at the Artists’ Beach House in Whitstable. The pretty house is set right on the beach, perfect for an outdoor ceremony and beach side portraits. The pastel tones of the venue really influenced their stylish decoration choices. I have fallen head over heels for the drip meringue cake they commissioned, perfectly whimsical in every way. The other important element to their décor were the florals. Greenery and foliage created an archway where they said I do and bright white blooms were used for the bouquets. Timeless and modern.

Sophie looked every inch the beautiful bride in her open back cap sleeved gown she found in David’s Bridal. Simon meanwhile was suited and booted in a custom navy herringbone tweed suit and check tie, so smart! I love this wedding, it just radiates love and happiness.

Hollie Carlin Photography, I cannot thank you enough for sharing these dreamy photographs.

THE PROPOSAL | Simon proposed with a beautiful custom-designed sapphire ring on 28 August 2015. Simon arranged a chauffeured Bentley to collect us from our home-at-the-time in Canary Wharf and take us to the Library Bar at the Lanesborough Hotel for drinks, we then went for a 10-course tasting menu dinner at Gautier in Soho.

THE VISION | A low key seaside celebration.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | The planning was short and sweet as we married just 9 months after the engagement. Once we found our perfect venue everything else fell into place.

THE VENUE | Artists’ Beach House, Tankerton Beach, Whitstable.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My vintage inspired wedding dress was a beaded, cap sleeve, lace dress from David’s Bridal. It had delicate pearls dangling from the sleeves and an open key-hole back. To add more shape and detail to the dress we added a satin ribbon belt with elegant beading, this tied in a bow giving a nice detail to the back of the dress. The veil had a small satin ribbon edging, which complimented the satin belt. My shoes were beautiful gold and sparkly sandals. For jewellery I wore a pearl necklace that was the first gift my mum’s father ever gave my grandma so had lots of sentimental value. I wore pearl earrings that Simon had bought for me earlier on in our relationship. I wore my sapphire engagement ring on my left hand. I had a lucky penny from best friend Kirsty taped securely into my shoe and it’s still there!

I had simple and elegant hair and make up. My hair was clipped back with a gold and pearl clip to match my dress.

FINDING THE DRESS | The first visit to look at dresses ended in tears after trying on lots of dresses that did not fit the vision nor occasion. The second visit was much more successful, I chose the dress after looking around the shop and falling in love with it on the hanger (I’d dismissed it as it seemed shapeless from the pictures on the website) and it felt like ‘the one’ as soon as I put it on. My mother and close friend, Sam, came with me when I found the dress and we celebrated with a glass of prosecco afterwards. It was a very emotional moment choosing the dress that you’ll walk down the aisle in, there were lots of tears and not just from me.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | A made-to-measure three piece navy herringbone tweed suit from Walker Slater in Fulham. Michael who runs the shop, was also kind enough to give Simon a stripped navy, pale blue and cream tie which he said he liked and therefore wore at the wedding. This was completed with a pale blue shirt from Hilditch & Key and dark brown brogues from Barkers. He also wore a cream and blue boutonnière from Graham Greener organised by his mother.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | No readings. The ceremony was short and sweet. We had a string quarter playing before, during and after the ceremony. We took our first walk as Mr and Mrs, back down the aisle, to All You Need is Love by The Beatles played by the string quartet.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Sophie’s cousin, Catherine, was the sole bridesmaid and wore a beautiful beaded dress from Monsoon.

THE FLOWERS | Provided by Jane at Graham Greener. All white, simple, elegant bunches. We had an arch across the opening of the Fisherman’s Cabin where the ceremony took place and bouquets up the stairs to the house and scattered around on the tables.

THE CAKE | 3 tier drip cake; carrot, Victoria sponge and salted caramel tiers with flavoured meringues and white chocolate shards decorating it.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Hollie Carlin.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | The venue is a beautiful house set on Tankerton beach in Whitstable. We wanted a wedding that embraced the beauty of the location and the house and therefore we did not decorate the house very much. The ceremony took place in the ‘Fisherman’s Cabin’ and this was decorated with a beautiful arch of white flowers. Champagne and canapés followed the ceremony with the string quartet playing in the background. Seaside chic, pastel tones and relaxed flowers.

THE HONEYMOON | Tour of Italy: Sardinia, Lake Como and Rome for lots of pizza, gelato and fine dining!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The confetti canons were a very special moment and our first walk as Mr and Mrs definitely went off with a bang! Simon’s short but perfectly formed speech included lots of memorable moments from “hoping we’ll get along alright” to thanking my divorced parents for “making her”.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Keep it focused on you, as the couple it should be all about you! You’re bound to offend someone along the way, especially if you break from tradition but it’s more important that you look back at your day with fond memories and no regrets.
