Light & Pretty Peach London City Wedding

This summery, light and peachy celebration will be sure to leave you with feel good vibes. There is so much to love and I especially adore the industrial yet modern space where this lovely pair of newlyweds held their wedding reception.

Anna and Sam tied the knot at Shoreditch Town Hall and celebrated at the West Reservoir Centre in Stoke Newington. It was important to them both that their wedding day was local and personal to them as a couple. They included gorgeous touches such as the tassel balloons lovingly crafted by Anna, watercolour pastel stationery and stunning blooms. The flowers included peach peonies, daisies and David Austin roses, a nod to their little boy’s name.

Anna chose to wear an elegant gown by Jesus Peiro with her hair in plaits and adorned with fresh blooms. Sam meanwhile opted for a dapper navy check suit and tan shoes. Didn’t they look amazing?

THE PROPOSAL | Sam proposed on a boiling hot August Tuesday, I was 6 months pregnant and grumpy. We were ‘homeless’ and living in his sisters Brixton flat, as I trudged home from work that evening I remember feeling so blue about our house purchase falling through and stress at work. As I walked into the flat the whole downstairs was full of candles, flowers, and pregnancy friendly canapés, I thought to myself he must somehow have known I was in a terrible mood and wanted to cheer me up. Then he appeared and got down on one knee but I still couldn’t believe what was happening. It was so special to be proposed to in such an everyday setting, I couldn’t have been more surprised and we spent the evening in cloud nine up at the top of the Shard.

THE VISION | The vision for the wedding wasn’t a concrete theme, more of a collection of things we (I) love and that reflected us and our style.

I am an architectural designer and illustrator so I knew the venue, decorations and invitations /stationery were going to be key and they had to perfect, a bit of wow and a lot of fun..

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We were planning the wedding whilst moving house, renovating a house, raising a 1 year old and both working, so it definitely a balancing act and it took its toll on patience and energy. But I knew if I didn’t take the time to get it perfect then on the day I would notice all those small details, even though Sam insisted that all those little things weren’t important!! We had to learn the language of compromise.

THE VENUE | Sam and I met and fell in love in Hackney, that’s where we fist lived together and raised our first son, so it felt important to have the wedding rooted within our home and for us to spend the special most amazing day within our daily neighbourhood – a sort of extension of the proposal. We had our ceremony at Shoreditch town hall and had the reception at the West Reservoir Centre in Stoke Newington, a 2 minute walk from our first home together. The space at the West Reservoir was so stunning, a triple height space, lofty, airy and overlooking the water. I loved the history of industry within the space and the vistas, it felt like we had been transported somewhere else entirely.

THE DRESS | After much deliberation I chose a structured and simple Jesus Peiro gown. I had always imagined lace and romance within my dress, but in the end the elegance and structure of this dress blew me away, and I added softness in the hair and flowers.

We visited a few London stores but in the end I found Morgan Davies to have such a great range for me, and as soon as I tried on the dress for the first time there was no going back.

I chose to wear no jewellery on the day apart from a simple turquoise ring from Denmark gave to me on the morning of the wedding – to balance out the extra ring I would have on my right hand!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Sam’s younger sister Anna, has an incredible voice and we were lucky enough to have her sing during the ceremony. Our siblings and friends chose readings they thought reflected us, which was a very special gift. The readings really resonated with us and we weren’t shy about having a few, as the registry office ceremony was very short.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 6 wonderful bridesmaids, who were so invaluable to me in helping make decorations and prep in the run up to the day. We chose a palette of dove grey for the dresses, so it would sit well with the colour-ways of peach, white, aqua, grey and green that were running through the decorations and flowers. They had different dresses from high street stores but the hair flowers and shoes all tied them together perfectly and I couldn’t have been happier or prouder to have them by my side.

THE FLOWERS | I was lucky enough to have my friend Clare from the wonderful Love Blooms help with my flowers. I wanted a pastel palette with flowers that I loved, I am a flower novice so she helped me hand pick all the elements that would make my bouquet, my favourite was a rose by David Austin that featured in my bouquet as Austin is the name of our first boy.

We went for natural and informal arrangements with large daisies and berry buds, along with peach peonies.

THE FOOD | We wanted to have an informal dining experience, so we chose an Italian feasting menu to remind us of our favourite summer holidays.  The menu included heirloom tomato Panzanella, and Beef tagliatta, salads breads and dipping oils. Sinead at the flavour kitchen helped us with creating the perfect menu for a summers afternoon and we (and our guests) were blown away by the flavours and quality of everything she served.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | I have known Katie from Katie Palmer Photography for a long time and knew I wanted her to shoot our wedding. She made Sam and I so comfortable, and somehow managed to control the unruly crowd of guests so we have some great group shots. Our wedding album is one of my most treasured possessions; she captured each moment and turned our memories into something tangible. We had an impromptu photoshoot in a vintage fair on the way to our reception, and these shots are some of my favourites. We had a practice shoot before the wedding and she took time visiting the venue and making sure she could get all the shots we wanted for the day..

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I wanted to make our decorations – 13 large balloons with tassels in the wedding colour palette. This involved making 300 tassels, it took a good few weeks but I loved the effect of the hanging tassel tails within the triple height space of the venue and the large balloon orbs bobbing up and down. We added fairy lights and felt this was enough to celebrate the inherent beauty of the space with all the natural light flooding in. We kept table decorations simple as we had a lot of food to serve and so had small bottles with scattered stems of the wedding flowers, and candles in grey and orange. For the table numbers we chose photos of Sam and I at different 1,2, 3 years old etc which added a personal touch. My fabulous relatives at Halen Mon provided salt and paper wedding favours for all guests which I loved as it was something from within the family..

THE HONEYMOON | We had an immediate mini-moon after the wedding, 4 days in Sardinia whilst the grandparents looked after our son. It was a blissfully peaceful time after all the hubbub of the wedding and intense preparation. We had a longer family honeymoon with our son Austin later in the summer and visited the Veneto in Italy, to continue in the love of Italy.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Our wedding day was an incredibly happy day bursting with love and joy for us and all of our guests. However we also received the devastating news that Sam’s grandfather passed away the morning of our wedding, so there was an element of bitter-sweet to it for us all and especially Sam’s dad. Sam’s grandpa Leonard was an incredible person who we all miss dearly, and we honoured his memory on the day. Two days later whilst on mini-moon we had a surprise discovery we were 3 months pregnant; expecting our second son. This in a small way eased some level of grief for Sam’s family. 18 months on and we now have Leo – full name Leonard, who is named after his Great Grandfather.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Savour every minute of the day as it flies by. Take a few minutes out with your partner to focus on each other and be in your moment together.

I gave a speech and I’m so glad I did as it was great to be able to add my voice to the male chorus of speeches, so if you as a bride are tempted I would say go for it, it was a highlight to my day.
