I am head over heels for this fresh and vibrant Spring wedding celebration.
Emma and Sam decided to get married on the 20th May 2016 at Winters Barns in Kent; a countryside venue just perfect for their relaxed vision. With seven months to plan they ensured they booked the elements that were most important to them first, including their photographer, dress and band. Before then planning the rest of their wedding. An array of pretty Spring blooms in bright hues really brought a pop of colour to the wedding, I especially adore Emma’s peony, hydrangea, stock and tulip bouquet. They must have smelt heavenly.
Let’s talk about Emma’s dress, it’s just stunning! A lace top with long sleeves and tulle for miles teamed with a lace edged veil and Manolo Blahnik heels. The perfect bridal look surely? Sam and the boys went for blue tweed suits with red ties and they looked really dashing.
Thanks so much to Kerry Ann Duffy for sharing these lovely images this morning.
THE PROPOSAL | 27th Sept 2015 (Sam’s birthday) during a holiday in Mauritius.
THE VISION | A relaxed, Kent countryside barn wedding with a vintage feel.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Venue first (as that sets the tone for the everything else) looked a different barns in Kent until we found Winters Barns which was perfect as it took the stress out of everything planning wise. Then we sorted the dress, photographer and band (all the important things that tend to get booked up in advance).
THE VENUE | Ceremony: St Mary’s Church Nackington, Canterbury, Reception: Winters Barns, Canterbury.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | All from Frou Frou Bridal Boutique (except the shoes which were Manolo Blahnik).
FINDING THE DRESS | I only went to 2 shops, I knew I wanted a dress that was comfortable and that I could dance in. I also wanted my arms covered and I knew I definitely didn’t want a traditional corset style dress.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Blue tweed suits with maroon ties. The Bridesmen wore lilac ties to match the maid of honour’s dress.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | One surprise reading from our maid of honour (we didn’t know what she was going to read until the day and it was something she wrote herself). Music was very important to us (as I used to sing in a band) so we hired a live band called ‘Riptide’ who were brilliant and did a range of songs from all generations and also allowed me to sing 2 songs with them.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | One Maid of Honour (Louise Adams) and 2 Bridesmen (Stuart Kaley & Lee Underwood).
THE FLOWERS | Jane at Graham Greener, theme was ‘wild country’ – I didn’t want anything too structured.
THE CAKE | Made by a friend (My Bridesman Stu – his partner Jon Parsons).
I absolutely LOVE cheese so we also had a cake made of cheese too.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Kerry Ann Duffy
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Our love topiary sign and DANCE light sign were well worth the money for the photos alone, also all the bunting my Bridesman Stn and his partner Jon made help create that party/vintage feel.
THE HONEYMOON | 6 nights in Santorini, we are currently planning a bigger ‘mega’ moon in Nov but we are no sure where to go yet.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Singing with the band and throwing my bouquet into the crowd at the end. Sam’s speech was particularly good and Louise’s reading and my Mum’s speech was a poem which was great. My brother giving me away and arriving in a very stylish car that he had hired.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Remember to relax and enjoy your day, it goes so quickly and there is no point getting stressed and sweating the small stuff. We looked at it as a great big party with all our closest friends and family and it was important to us that everyone just had fun and didn’t take anything too seriously.
You CAN plan a wedding in 7 months, it also makes it less depressing when the day is over as you have had less time to plan and therefore does not feel like a big part of your life is missing (you also get to plan it while riding on the back of the engagement excitement rather than seeing it all as a hassle).
