Enchanting Woods Inspired Country Wedding

Tim and Anna wed in a very special ceremony at Perlethorpe church and followed with a reception at Thoresby Courtyard on the 3rd July 2016. The vision was to really bring the outside in and create an enchanted, woodland feel deep in Sherwood Forest. The pea lights and star cloth really makes you feel like you are outdoors under the stars and there were plenty of other beautiful details to turn the blank canvas barn into a magical space. Can you believe the pair pulled everything together in six months?

Anna took her colour cue for the whole wedding from the beautiful grey bridesmaids dresses which were from ASOS. The bride herself looked fantastic in Maggie Sottero “Emma”, which she found in the first shop she went into. Tim went for a waistcoat without the tails and looked equally great.

The flowers really are so pretty in pink and there are lots of woodland details to take in, I just love the tree table plan and the wood slices dotted around the venue. What a fantastic idea to serve tea and scones to guests after the ceremony to keep them going until dinner time!

Thanks ever so much to Alexa Penberthy Photography for the wonderful images.

THE PROPOSAL | 12.12.2016 – Outside York Minster on a bench where we met.

THE VISION | Both of us have a love of being in the woods, so we wanted our wedding to reflect this. We decided to get married in a church and venue located in beautiful Sherwood Forest.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had a very short engagement in comparison to most couples these days. We had 6 Months to plan a wedding. It’s was stressful at moments, especially as I was still finishing University and had a dissertation and placements to balance. But we did it!

BUDGET | £20,000 – I’m so thankful for my parents who saved long and hard so we could have the wedding of my dreams. If we had not had help from my parents, we still would have got married, but it would have been a very different kind of wedding.

THE VENUE | Thoresby Courtyard – We hired the beautiful rustic riding hall as blank canvas and decorated it to fit the feel we wanted for our wedding. The grounds of the estate are stunning and with picnic benches and a gazebo to serve tea and scones after the service at Perlethorpe church (a beautiful small church fitting 160 people a 5 minute walk away from the venue) It really was the ideal setting.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | It was a Maggie Sottero “Emma” it was beautiful, easy to move in and figure flattering. I had a lacy veil, which sat on the back of my hair. My shoes we’re the cheapest things of the whole wedding, I think they were £8 off amazon, simple as no one could see them under my dress.

FINDING THE DRESS | I only went to one dress shop and found the one I loved there. I tried on about 10/15 dresses before deciding that the Maggie Sottero “Emma” was my favourite.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Tim really wasn’t a fan of top hats & tail suits, he decided to have his groomsmen wear shirts with a blue and Grey waistcoat, Tim wore a grey waistcoat.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Our service was beautiful, we had scriptures read about what Love actually is such as 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 & John 4: 9-12. The worship songs we chose were mine and Tim’s favourites and we felt that they helped declare the love God has for us such as “10 thousand Reasons”, “In Christ alone” & “Be Thou my vision” we had friends and family play. Tim’s Godfather married us, as he’s a Vicar, which was really special.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 7 Bridesmaids: My two sisters, my three sisters in laws, and two of my best friends. They were all amazing and supportive. They wore a grey dress from ASOS which wasn’t everyone’s favourite, but I loved them and thought they all looked stunning. We based our colour theme of Grey and Pink of the fact I loved the bridesmaid dresses so much.

THE FLOWERS | Our flowers were gorgeous! Hand crafted bouquets of blush pink roses and white delicate flowers. The Florist was incredible and knew exactly how I wanted them to look, she also decorated the venue and church making our woodland of Grey and pink flowers come alive.

THE CAKE | We had 3 tiers of chocolate, Victoria sponge and fruit cake. The cake was beautifully made with hand made edible sugar roses and lace, matching our grey and Pink colour scheme. It also tasted incredible, and was real centrepiece of the day.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Alexa was amazing! She worked her magic, we were so happy with the results of the photographs she really helped us to capture our day. She was so professional, so helpful, guided us through the photo-shoot and helped us feel at ease. I love her natural way of capturing the moment. She was so good, my sister whose getting married this year, wouldn’t have anyone else.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | A lot of the small details on the tables such as the table cards, favours, seating plan, jars, etc were all made by myself. We hired some circular wooden tree blocks as table centres that worked really well to bring the woodland theme together. All the tables were named after types of trees. We brought a few Bay trees into the venue and hired an arch covered in Ivy to add to the décor. Also the food we had was incredible, BBQ buffet style, pricey, but you paid for what you got. I’ve had people tell me repeatedly, it was the best wedding food they’d ever had.

THE HONEYMOON | We went to Mexico…. I miss it. We had a fantastic time, swam with turtles, ate and drank to our hearts desire, snorkelled in an underground cave and got a really good tan.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | We walked out of the church to the last few minutes of one of my favourite Christian songs by Rend Collective “The Art of Celebration”, when we were walking out hand in hand, praising god, and looking at the smiling faces of all the people we loved in the world, that was an really memorable moment.
We only had a really old 2001 Renault Cleo (who has now passed away RIP) so our friends dressed it up with flowers and ribbons and cans for us to drive away from the venue, which was really sweet.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Try not to get too anxious about the day. It’s just one day, things will go wrong, but enjoy every moment of it, as you only do it once (hopefully). Use Pinterest/blogs to help plan for ideas. Do bits yourself if you can, it definitely adds character to weddings. Aim to have a marriage even more beautiful than your wedding.
