Elegant & Stylish Floral Filled Wedding

Happy Friday folks. Are you ready for the weekend? Spring is definitely in the air now and this wedding today gave me a taste of the summer to come. Gorgeous florals, fine weather and the glorious countryside.

WWW readers Nicola and Scott tied the knot on the 9th September 2016 in an outdoor ceremony at Millbridge Court, followed by a reception in the gorgeous barn. Bride Nicola is a florist (Flora Special Occasion) and certainly used her vast experience and stylish eye to plan their day to perfection. The flowers, of course, were utterly beautiful. She arranged the blooms in an array of pinks with plenty of foliage for good measure. There were striking bouquets, a floral arch, whimsical table arrangements and dreamy aisle flowers to name a few. Wow.

The rest of the styling was kept muted and fresh, which really allowed the flowers to pop. Touches included a tall show stopping cake, botanical stationery and pretty maids in long pale green dresses. Nicola chose to wear Jodie by Enzoani, it looked perfect on her, with her hair in a chic up do and a classic veil finishing off her look. Meanwhile Scott chose a navy blue suit and pale green tie, very sharp indeed.

Thanks so very much to Jordanna Marston for providing these wonderful images.

THE PROPOSAL | My fiancee Scott had promised me a day/night away as we hadn’t celebrated our 10 year anniversary the month before.

The day before our little jaunt, we attended a good friend’s wedding, which I had also provided the wedding flowers for, so not only was I very hungover but I was also absolutely shattered!

Scott wanted where he was taking me to be a surprise, so we started driving towards Aylesbury in the afternoon where we stopped at a beautiful old house called Hartwell House, which had stunning gardens, which he wanted to walk around.

As we were strolling around the grounds, he led me in between two hedges into a secret garden with a stone open sided building. He then got down on one knee and proposed whilst a musician popped out from inside the building to serenade us! He then proceeded to tell me that we weren’t going away for the night, but we were catching a flight the following morning to Dubai to choose my engagement ring. As you can imagine I was ecstatic and more than surprised!

THE VISION | Being a wedding florist I have seen so many ideas, schemes and fads, so the vision for our wedding day was simple elegance. I wanted the flowers to give a feeling of freshness with an organic flow of foliage, seasonal flowers with bright pops of colour amongst more muted colours. All our accessories were sprayed gold, such as table number holders, the table plan and candle holders. Our venue was very plain, so we were able to put our stamp on it pretty easily.

I’d always imagined our wedding to be an elegant summer wedding with a laid back atmosphere, and I think we managed to achieve this.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Apart from changing the colour scheme 5 times, I found the planning pretty straight forward. I bought the obligatory wedding planning scrap book from Paperchase, which was my bible in the process and came in really handy with keeping myself organised.

THE VENUE | We chose Millbridge Court as it’s a blank canvas for all our ideas. We also loved the layout of the rooms, having a separate dining hall and dancing area was important to us, as was having the bar in the same room as the dancing and band. The whole venue is decorated beautifully with so many lovely small touches that made it feel special, from the amazing scented candles, to the potted succulent in the lounge areas.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was Jodie from Enzoani, which I bought from Surrey Brides who were brilliant. I had 5 dress fittings! My dress had an exposed lace back and was strapless, so it wasn’t easy getting the absolute perfect fit, but we managed it in the end! My long veil had lace detailing on it, this was also from Surrey Brides. I also wore a diamanté headpiece from ‘Lace & Favour’, and diamanté earrings from ‘Lily Lou Lou Bridal’.

FINDING THE DRESS | I visited numerous boutiques with my mum in and around London, and narrowed the dresses down to two from Enzoani. One was a satin structured gown with a full mermaid skirt, and the other was the Jodie which I chose as I preferred the prettiness and timelessness of it.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Scott bought his suit from Moss Bros from their ‘Tailor Me’ range, we got to chose the fabric, lining, buttons and even stitching colour. The fabric he chose was a dark navy blue with a very faint check. We had all the groomsmen wear a pale green tie which matched the bridesmaid’s dresses.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had my cousin Leila and Scott’s usher Ben chose a reading each, we wanted it to be a surprise for us to make it that little bit more special. Both of them did so well, and chose completely different types of readings which was nice. We walked down the aisle to ‘Songbird’ by Eva Cassidy, which is a song we’ve both always loved and found quite emotional.

At our drinks reception we had a fantastic guitarist/singer called Tristan Mackay who came recommended by the venue. As soon as I heard his voice on youtube, I knew we had to have him.

We had a 7 piece Motown and Soul band for our evening party which was led by Flo, an eccentric Australian bombshell with a huge afro and the most incredible soulful voice. The music was one of the highlights of the day for me, and we got many compliments on it.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Our beautiful bridesmaids wore multiway floor length pale green dresses by Debut at Debenhams. I also made fresh flower hair slides that they wore in their hair which really finished off the look. They all wore flat gold sandals, no-one likes ankle swingers!

THE FLOWERS | After changing the colour scheme several times, with only deciding on the final choice the week before the wedding, we decided to go with a scheme of ivory, pale peach, pale pink with a splash of fuchsia.

I always wanted to use lots of foliage to give a feminine natural atmosphere, so the centrepieces were large and overflowing with foliage that I had foraged the day before. We had ten round tables, including our top table, so we decided to go with half tall displays and half short ones to give an interesting and varied effect.

With help from the ushers, I constructed the ceremony flower arch the day before the wedding, which turned out much larger than expected! Luckily, this didn’t get bashed or damaged overnight, oh the relief!

THE CAKE | My friend Sarah who is a part-time cake maker constructed our ginormous 5 tiered creation, with every layer being a different flavour it was delicious and still in my freezer!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We hired Jordanna Marston from seeing her work at a friend’s wedding. We we’re so happy with the results, we felt the images really captured the day and we loved the bright colours that come across in all the images.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | All provided by my company (Flora Special Occasion). I ordered all my stationery from an Etsy shop, where a designer draws up your design, and then you buy the pdf. I had them all printed on vistaprint, it was such a cheap way to have beautiful personalised stationery.

THE HONEYMOON | On the Monday after our wedding we went to Singapore then onto Bali where we visited Seminyak, The Gili Islands and Ubud. We were away for just over 2 weeks. We couldn’t have hoped for a more amazing honeymoon, it was truly magical!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The frantic flower making the day before is a very crazy memory! Another lovely memory of mine was when Scott enthusiastically said ‘I do’ way too early on in the ceremony which really made me laugh, we have a fantastic picture of this.

The non-stop dancing and the fantastic band is a constant source of nostalgia for me now!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | RELAX the day before your wedding, get other people to do the dirty work! Make sure you have a precise list of who you want photos of to give to your photographer, (and think this part through carefully). Wear comfortable shoes! I’m so glad I did, I ended up wearing a cheap pair of wedges I bought off eBay, which I would NEVER wear day to day, but they saved my feet and allowed me to dance all night!
