Easter Spring Woodland Inspired Wedding

Easter Spring Woodland Wedding http://emmastonerweddings.com/

I do love a spring wedding and especially Easter nuptials filled with pastel tones and lots of mini eggs! Lucy and Andy wed on the 13th April 2017 at the Deer Park Country House Hotel, with a relatively small group of family and friends. Lucy found her beautiful Watters A-Line dress at Martin Charles Bridal Gallery and both the pretty pastel bridesmaids and the groom and his party were outfitted by Vow Bridal.

Lucy put the glorious décor together herself with a strong tree and woodland theme. I love how the cake looks like a stack of wood and aren’t the smartly dress deer on top of the cake just darling? The flowers fit perfectly with the spring feel from Lucy’s trailing bouquet to the simply gorgeous pedestals, which were also designed to look like trees. I love an Easter tree and Lucy and Andy’s was just the right size for their small but perfectly formed guest list. There are so many details to take in, enjoy!

Thanks so much to Emma Stoner for these fabulous images of this very special day.

THE PROPOSAL | It happened on holiday in Cornwall in Oct 2015, at a magical waterfall called St Nectan’s Glen- it was truly a shock to Lucy, as they were on holiday with Andy’s family at the time, and it’s an incredibly stunning place to get engaged! If you haven’t been before- check it out!

THE VISION | We didn’t want a BIG do – we decided on a small ceremony with just 38 closest family and friends, down in Devon, and then a big party for around 100 back home in Cambridgeshire. We both run a tree surgery company, and having our wedding day just before Easter, we planned to have a “Spring Woodland” theme, with hints of Easter, and woodland animals, including Deer, as we’d chosen the aptly named “Deer Park Country House Hotel” as our venue.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had about a year and half to plan, so for ages it felt like not much was really happening, other than invitations and guest lists, and plenty of pinning on pinterest boards! Then all of a sudden it was 2 months to go and it was a whirlwind to get everything done! On top of the wedding planning we’d just got ourselves a new puppy which made everything all the more challenging!

BUDGET | We had a LOT of help from both sets of parents, for which we are eternally grateful. We can’t actually tell you what our final budget was, but it was probably a bit more than we’d initially planned for! So be warned readers – take your budget… and double it!

THE VENUE | The Deer Park Country House Hotel, in Honiton, Devon. It’s a simply marvellous location to get married, set in acres of stunning Devonshire countryside that stretches as far as the eye can see. The staff were brilliant, we absolutely can’t thank them enough for their great hospitality and we even got to spend our wedding night in the magical Tree House on site, which we are returning to for our anniversary!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I bought a Watters dress from a local bridal boutique in Oundle. It was a floor length A-line lace vintage style dress, with tiny satin buttons that went all the way down the back of the train to the floor and finished off with a diamante belt and lace shoes, and a veil with tiny diamantes.

FINDING THE DRESS | It didn’t take too long really, I visited three shops in total, and it was the third dress I tried on; they do say three times a charm and it was true for me! I tried on others but my mind kept going back to this particular one, and the gentleman who runs the shop Martin is very talented, with a great eye as he also designs his own dresses, so that also helped fill me with confidence that this dress was the one!

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Andy wore a Grey Wool suit with tweed waistcoat and matching tie and brown shoes. We hired this in from another local wedding boutique called Vow Bridal, in Wansford, near Peterborough, although Andy’s tweed waistcoat and tie were made for him so got to keep them after the wedding as a lovely keepsake! His groomsmen wore the same but with a pale blue pastel waistcoat, which tied in with the colour of the maid of honours dress.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Lucy was taking on the ‘Stone’ surname, so keeping the natural Spring Woodland theme in mind, she went on a hunt for a reading that involved Stones, and nature, and literally came up with the most perfect reading called “Rock and a Stone”- do check it out!
Music wise, “Somewhere over the rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole was played as guests gathered. Lucy walked into the ceremony to a classical version of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”, and we both signed the register to a classical version of “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri, which was also our first dance song! We exited the ceremony to a classical version of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing – one of Andy’s favourite songs!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Lucy chose her older sister Katy to be maid of honour, her best friend Jen of 20+ years, and Andy’s two sisters Charlie and Susie to be her bridesmaids. Each wore a different pastel colour of the same dress, by Eliza + Ethan to fit in the with Easter theme – and Silver Shoes, and they each held a bouquet made of gypsophila and a hint of colour to match each of their dresses.

THE FLOWERS | Lucy’s bouquet was a delicate trailing hand tied bouquet with quite an assortment of spring flowers, David austin roses, bluebells, herbs, ferns, succulents and twisted willow, and trailing amaranthus.  The florists also created 5 amazing tree centre pieces made to tie in with each of the table names, Beech, Birch, Ash, Oak and Willow, made from a real piece of each tree, and topped with gorgeous spring flowers, more twisted willow and succulents.”

THE CAKE | The cake was cleverly created by Claire Makes Cakes, to look like three pieces of silver birch stacked on top of one another, on a base of thick Ash. The Cake topper was two smartly dressed wedding deer that Lucy found on ebay, and tiny mini eggs and splashes of the easter flowers also garnished the cake. Top tip for smaller weddings- we had a fake top tier of cake created- which we will not only get to keep, (for as long as it lasts!) but it also added height as we didn’t need a lot of cake making for our 38 guests!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | The brilliant Emma Stoner did our photography. She’s got a great eye for detail- we think the photos speak for themselves! Emma organised for a second shooter on the day too which meant the boys had coverage of themselves getting ready in the morning too!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Wedding favours, we filled glass mason jars with of course, cadburys mini eggs, and the table names i designed myself using mini black boards and hand drawn leaf patterns from each tree, each one sat nestled atop of a stags horns, whilst real roe deer antlers finished the look on the tables. For the table plan I arranged large twisted willow springs in a glass vase decorated with hanging eggs and covered in fairy lights, it seemed to go down a storm with guests! I also painted a vintage wooden ladder white, and hung variety of signs and blackboards from it with messages and a schedule for the day.

The entertainment in the evening was provided by internationally acclaimed electroswing DJ and singer Tallulah Goodtimes who also sang our first dance live for us, “A thousand years” by Christina Perri.

THE HONEYMOON | Immediately after the wedding, we went on a two week exploration around Cornwall and Devon, stopping at Whalesborough Luxury Holiday Cottages in Bude, followed by a night in the Blue Hayes Hotel in St Ives, (Which is out of this world!) two nights overlooking St Michael’s Mount in Marazion, and then back into Devon to stay in the fantastic Bovey Castle.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Too many to mention- but a favourite of ours was walking down a floodlit path at around midnight to our magical tree house, and we arrived, shattered and exhausted to find the log fire had been lit and romantic songs were playing on the radio- plus a bottle of champers and some of our cake had been arranged on the table!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take your time with the planning- don’t rush anything especially if you are on a budget. Use Pinterest to get ideas. Read wedding blogs like WWW to get even more ideas. Think about the little touches- it’s what people will remember from your day. Don’t get a new puppy two months before your big day! Take time for pampering and you-time. Listen to both of your desires and compromise where necessary.
