Dreaming of far flung distant shores, warmth, sunshine and clear blue seas?
Well this wedding will definitely transport you today. Gemma and Tom headed to Croatia to tie the knot outdoors beside the the blue Adriatic sea. With rustic décor, amazing stylish attire and dancing in the moon light it really was a perfect day.
“Gemma and Tom visited the Vis island in Croatia during their holiday and fell in love with the tranquil little towns, beautiful clear waters and the very laid-back atmosphere of the place. It was suiting them perfectly so they decided to go ahead and have their wedding the next summer here!
The moment I met the couple I realized how relaxed, happy and cool they were and I knew that their wedding will be one of the special ones!
The venue of the wedding was also a special one – an old and now reconstructed Fort George with its vast spaces, bohemian vibe and breath-taking views.
The styling of the wedding was a no-brainer – it had to suit the couple’s personality and the venue, so we chose rustic-vintage theme. Gemma wanted a lot of bright colours and the reds, oranges, purples, greens took stage here together with bright oranges as a whimsy element throughout the entire day.
The stationery reflected the travel element of the day – after all it was a destination wedding and all of the guests travelled to Croatia from the United Kingdom.
Another important element of the location – the blue Adriatic sea – just had to find its place in the wedding schedule, so after a fun, heart-felt ceremony and cocktail hour the guests moved on to the port of Vis (after changing high heals and tuxedo shoes into flip flops!) where a boat with canapés and wine was waiting for them. The entire party enjoyed sight seeing the beautiful coast line and each others company.
After the fun ride everyone got back to the Fort for dinner and party! The guests were greeted with little favours of local rakija (grapa), olive oil and dried lavender pouches.
As the sea has made the guests hungry the delicious food was gone fast and it was time for toasts, dancing and cake! The gorgeous naked cake was one of the highlights of the night!
I already mentioned that Gemma and Tom are a extremely fun couple so you can imagine that their friends and family were too! The party lasted until the late hours and the next day was best spent lounging in the sun!”

“We decided to get married in Fort George as the island of Vis was a special place that we had visited whilst newly engaged. The Fort overlooks the sea and has a wonderful charm and history as well as having the capacity to host modern events. The day was exactly how we wanted it. We love the vintage style but we also love bright colours and so we needed to find a balance where the wedding would be rustic but not too twee. We went with a colourful theme of flowers and fruit and Milda utilised the furnishings that were already at the Fort such as barrels, lanterns and disused pianos whilst also finding old typewriters.
The day began with a tour of the Museum in the Fort, where Mario treated our guests to a history of the island and Fort. The ceremony and champagne reception then took place overlooking the sea. We wanted photographs that caught people laughing and relaxed which also meant that guests could continue enjoying the day. After the ceremony we then guided everyone to the entrance of the Fort where two boxes of flip flops were waiting for guests for a surprise boat trip around the island. A fantastic traditional Croatian band was waiting for us on the boat as we toured all the beautiful surroundings. On our return to the Fort, the tables were set with beautiful bespoke menus and flowers. The favours were very Croatian with lavender bags and liquor. We opted for a buffet which included an amazing Octopus salad and traditional Croatian delicacies. The cake was a ‘naked’ Victoria sponge made by our favourite local restaurant Lola.
We picked every song that was played at the reception ensuring that all the music reflected our connections with family and friends over the years. We all danced for 5 hours in the moonlight and the warm breeze of the Fort.
It was such a relaxed day and totally encapsulated everything we love about the island of Vis, Croatia and the Croatian people. Milda and Mario have amazing taste and local knowledge and contacts, which enabled them to put to life all of our ideas. There is no way we would have been able to have the wedding we had without them. They were an amazing support to us for the entire year before the wedding and on the day. they say a wedding goes in a blur but it was so seamless I actually remember every bit of the day, because I enjoyed every bit of the day!”
