A DIY delight for you lovelies this morning. Think country farm location, a colourful traditional pole tent marquee and so many belly laughs.
Yes it’s WWW readers Jess and Rhodri’s wedding held on the 10th September 2016 at a sweet tin church followed by a reception at their farm in Wales. Their day was all hand crafted, from the lovely hand stitched dress Jess made for herself, to the delicious cake and the rustic décor. I just adore the vintage feel to Jess’ gown and Rhodri donned a sharp tweed navy suit with hand made silk tie. Then there were the bridesmaids in pale pink beaded frocks, which complimented the pretty pink and purple florals to a T.
Mismatched crockery was nestled besides DIY bunting and a ribbon adorned ceiling in the stripy marquee. Outside there was live music, a hog roast and a love shack, what a fabulously entertaining atmosphere.
Huge thanks to Hannah Miles Photography for sharing these joy filled shots with us.
THE PROPOSAL | Out of the blue, on the sofa eating fish and chips watching rubbish telly with a bottle of wine, with none other than a copper pipe as my ring!! Which I still have and love!
THE VISION | Farmhouse fayre.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Planned by me over the course of the year, using pinterest and wedding blogs as inspiration as well as my own ideas. I had a little black book (well yellow actually) that became my bible!
BUDGET | Approx 10k.
THE VENUE | We were married in a small tin church and then had the party in a traditional style marquee at our farm on the Cardigan bay coastline.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I made and designed my own dress with the help from my very talented mum. I got my raspberry pink shoes from Office, hair piece was a vintage necklace and earrings were grey pearls from my mother in law. My dress had a lot of beading on it so I went easy on the extra glitz.
FINDING THE DRESS | Well I guess for me it was more about the material which I got from a great shop in Cardiff on city road Butterfly fabrics.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Navy blue flecked tweed 3 piece suit. Hand made silk tie from my dad and shoes from Asos. Suit was from Clive’s Menswear in Aberystwyth. Mark the manager there is excellent and provides a great service.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Dr Zuess – Oh the places you’ll go (re mastered a bit by my Master of Ceremonies Don my brother in law).
Us Two – A.A Milne.
Calon Lan at Church.
Sgarmes – choir – a bit like Glee.
Aberystwyth male voice choir.
Spotify playlist in the evening.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Dresses were from Asos – at time newly launched wedding range. Excellent quality and price. Shoes were the girls own. Earrings from Accesorize and hair bands from Not On The High Street. Best mate – Lowri. Sister – Anna. Sister in law – Tara.
THE FLOWERS | Expressions Florist – Julie Amies-Carter. Very farm-yardy with lots of wild flowers.
THE CAKE | By my cake maker extraordinaire sister in law Hayley Severs. Naked cake 3 tiers with bottom a lemon cake with and Italian lemon meringue centre, middle was a dark chocolate cake, and top tier a vanilla sponge with home made raspberry jam, decorated with fresh flowers.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | My gorgeous and very very talented friend Hannah Miles.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Where do I start!!! I bought all the plates, cutlery and wine glasses myself having trawled vintage shops and fayres!! I made the napkins from Ikea tea towels.
Ribbon canopy in marquee – bought ribbon strung up from ribbonroom.com. Fairy lights from Ikea.
Small T Nant bottles from my work.
Place cards – I made small sheep, one black and one white facing each other out of wool from the farm and lots of glue gunning!
Vases for flowers I collected from around the house that we already had and arranged table decorations ourselves. Milk churns from an antique sale.
Bunting – I recycled my mother in laws old curtains.
Mural – made by myself and older sister Harriet, helped by various family members to paint it all.
THE HONEYMOON | We spent 3 nights in Portmeirion straight after the wedding but have since been to Australia and New Zealand for a month for our proper one.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | My cousin Jason jumping through the burning heart we made….! Total nutter but show stopper!
Going to the church on vintage Massey Fergusdon tractors.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take 5 minutes for yourselves together, enjoy it! Ask for help from family – they love being involved.
