There’s something about this time of year when lots of trees outside are bare that makes wedding greenery so delightful. Cosy Outfits and Soft Fabrics

We all love to wrap up warm in the winter and brides and grooms are no exception. Cardigans over dresses can look ever so cute and for grooms, colder weather is a chance to have a play around with interesting denser fabrics. Fabrics can also come into play with your festive décor, think soft sumptuous materials that will create a cosy atmosphere. You might like to think about providing blankets to keep your guests toasty or dressing your venue with thicker velvets, wools or even sheepskins and faux furs.

Seasonal Sparkle

Glitter and sequins at weddings are always welcome but a bit of sparkle really comes into its own at Christmas. The possibilities are almost endless; sequinned brides and bridesmaids, table runners or glitter encrusted candle holders and decorations. Whether you choose to dazzle your guests or just to add a subtle hint of sparkle, nothing says festive like shiny things!

Snow Time

I’m sure there are lots of couples marrying in winter who hope for a dusting of snow on their big day, but whether you get the real thing or not, there are plenty of ways to create a snowy effect indoors. Pale blues and icy tones are just perfect for creating a festive wintry look without going full blown Christmas. Choose light fabrics and coloured glass or white glitter and frosty looking iced cakes.

Warm Lighting

Lighting is so important for weddings at any time of year but around Christmastime, it really comes into its own. Whether you festoon your whole venue in fairy lights or hold your ceremony by candlelight, it’s easy to create a warm, cosy atmosphere with the right lighting. Pea light curtains are great for washing walls with light and I think they look a bit like falling snow! If you are a planning a more intimate gathering, a candlelit supper is always a treat.

Red & Green

Of course the traditional colours of Christmas are red and green. Whether you choose to theme your whole wedding or just add a few subtle hints, these tones are a sure fire way to get your guests feeling festive. Of course foliage is naturally green and this can be a great basis, with some red flowers or berries added. If the bold tones are too much, burgundies, dark pinks and faded reds work just as well.

Fireside

I LOVE a roaring wood fire and it’s a sure fire way to get me feeling Christmassy. If you’re lucky enough to have working fires at your venue, this is definitely the time of year to make a feature of them with floral or foliage garlands. If not, perhaps consider a fire pit for your guests to crowd around outside or install an abundance of candles in jars to recreate the warmth of the fireside.
