English Country Garden Wedding Marquee

WWW readers Christina and Damian held their wedding in Christina’s parents beautiful garden. With a touching outdoor ceremony and the prettiest decorated marquee you ever did see, swathed in pastel lanterns and pretty blooms.

Christina chose an elegant dress by Priscilla of Boston, while Damian and the boys went for traditional morning suits. I have to mention the lovely bridesmaids who donned gorgeous blue dresses by Coast.

Ohhh so lovely.

Thanks so much to the wonderful Debs Ivelja for sharing her images with us today.

The Proposal… We were living in Sydney at the time, Damian suggested an early evening picnic at Ballast Point, a beautiful park that overlooks the city. We were halfway through when a huge storm broke out, we packed up and ran for shelter, halfway there  in the pouring rain, Damian stopped me and got down on one knee…

The Vision for the Day… We wanted to keep it quite simple and fuss free – an elegant, traditional English Garden wedding with a marquee.

The Planning Process… From afar, while living in San Francisco! Huge thanks goes to my amazing parents who orchestrated everything and listened patiently to many skype calls! But fortunately I also had a trip home to organise visa’s 8 months before so a lot was initiated then, with the help and suggestions from family friends living locally who were able to recommend suppliers.

Budget… We really didn’t want to blow a huge budget to begin with, but I’m afraid it’s easy to get carried away and with things, even last minute contingency plans for rain etc, so we spent much more than we would have liked (approx. £25K +!)

The Venue… My parent’s garden in Fosbury, Wiltshire – so we were incredibly lucky to have the only dry, sunny day of the whole month!

The Dress + Accessories… A dress by Priscilla of Boston (an American brand no longer made), fresh roses in my hair and my mum’s pearl necklace.

Finding the Dress… Angelica Bridal in Angel Islington, London, was the first shop I tried on dresses, so when I found out there was a sample sale I went with my sister and queued for a couple of hours! After trying 4 dresses on I managed to buy my dress in 20 minutes. I didn’t really know what I wanted but the satin felt gorgeous and I could tell from my sister’s face it was the one!

Groom’s Attire… A traditional morning suit with tails, hired.

The Readings + Music… The Readings included a quote from the Dalai Lama and the book ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’.

Beautiful Bridesmaids… My two lovely sisters and two of my dearest friends. They wore a gorgeous blue dress from Coast, which looked stunning on all of them.

The Flowers… I loved my flowers by Sarah Styles  - a good friend of one of my bridesmaids. I knew I was in safe hands as she has an amazing sense of style and colour.

The Cake… A gift from a family friend and neighbour – Juliet used the roses on my dress for inspiration to create something classic and elegant – it was very special and one of the loveliest surprises on the day.

Your Photographer… The wonderful Debs Ivelja (www.debsivelja.com) – the photos say it all! Her lovely laid back yet professional nature made it very easy.

The Details + Decor… Since we were living abroad in the run up and had the garden as an amazing backdrop, we were happy to keep it simple with a little bit of bunting and pastel coloured lanterns to decorate the marque, which was extremely beautiful with big open windows on 2 sides overlooking the fields and house – so we didn’t need much!

The Honeymoon… Mexico, we travelled around the west coast for a couple of weeks, it was beautiful – a perfect mixture of relaxation and adventure.

Memorable Moments… It was all amazing to be honest, and flew by! Everything from the vows, to the speeches, to the first dance…! The support of my amazing family, including my Uncle and Aunt from Australia, is my enduring memory – and that so many people had travelled so far to be part of the day. I felt very loved!

Advice for Other Couples… Start the planning process early so it doesn’t feel too pressured – and dedicate time each week to decide on things together.  And accept that the day will still be perfect even if not everything goes to plan : )
