Campbell’s Flowers have created a foraged bouquet, which is super easy and very economical to create. I so love Cow Parsley and the addition of grass and wheat looks super lovely. SUMMERTIME … AND THE LIVING IS EASY!
Hello to everyone and a huge thank you to Lou for the chance to bring this tutorial to her lovely readers. We all love to share here at Campbell’s Flowers and are so delighted to bring you a really simple foraged bouquet – just perfect for those of you who love to DIY. We also love to champion British grown seasonal flowers and for anyone planning a June wedding, this design couldn’t be more timely as Queen Anne’s Lace is currently in abundance. You might also have heard it referred to as it’s other, slightly less romantic name, of Cow Parsley, but they are one and the same!
Before we move onto the tutorial, just a quick word about foraging – although Cow Parsley isn’t a protected species it’s always good to remember to consider the delicate habitat and environment you are visiting and only cut with care and respect.
For this design, you will need:-
10-15 stems Queen Anne’s Lace
10 stems or so of various grasses
10 stems of dried wheat or similar
Queen Anne’s Lace, Grasses & Wheat
Lay out all your materials within easy reach, taking care to keep the stems of the Queen Anne’s lace as separate as possible as they can get tangled really easily which can make putting your design together a bit tricky.
To create a spiralled bouquet, if you’re right handed, feed each stem from right to left, turning your left hand clockwise each time you feed a stem into the design.
If you’re left handed do exactly the same the other way round – ie feed each stem from left to right into your right hand and turn this anti-clockwise each time you add a stem. You might find you need to practice this a bit or you can always pop over to our YouTube Channel, Campbell’s Flowers, where we’ve a few DIY tutorial videos which might help.
Keep adding stems making sure that you alternate the materials between the flowers, grasses and wheat so that you have a nice even distribution of everything equally throughout the design.
Generally, a wedding bouquet should be made in proportion to you, however, we do really rather love the outsized bouquets which are becoming more and more popular, so it’s entirely up to you! Feel free to create whatever you feel most comfortable with.
Tie off your design nice and tightly to make sure that nothing is going to move then cut the stems neatly.
To create a nice rustic look which works well with this really natural design, add a band of hessian and pin into place at the back.
If, like us, you’re just a little bit in love with lace, then a band of cotton lace looks really pretty pinned into place over the top of the hessian.
Et voila! Your finished design should look a little bit like this!
