Lisa and Greg had a dream team for their wedding day, with Babb Photo capturing their day and The Bijou Bride on board as their wedding planner. They were married at the beginning of the year at The Swan Inn, Gloucestershire.
You may recognise Greg as he is a member of awesome band, Scouting for Girls, so you can imagine that music and personality was a big part of their day. Fun, friendly, warm and happy with a cocktail party feel for the day and a James Bond style party in the evening. Brilliant.
They had a plethora of fantastic DIY elements and quirky details, with personalised comic book badges, a brooch bouquet, animal cocktail stirrers, a wall of shame and lego colouring in to name a few.
Lisa looked super gorgeous in Pronovias with her beautiful make up look completed by Gemma Sutton. While Greg opted for a dapper made to measure charcoal suit with purple tie and personalised bass clef cuff links. Didn’t they look amazing?!
Oh such a fantastic wedding.
Thanks so much to Babb Photo for sharing her photography with us today.
The Proposal… Lisa proposed to Greg on Valentines Day 2011 (& bought her own ring & one for Greg)!
The Vision for the day… Fun, friendly, warm, happy. Cocktail party in the day & James Bond party in the eve!
The Planning process… Hired a wedding planner by the hour (The Bijou Bride). Lots of homemade crafts to make it more personalised. Lisa used to be an Events Manager so tried hard not to make it an ‘Event”!
Budget… Not set but deco tried to barter for most things!
The Venue… The Swan Inn, Bibury, Glocs
The Dress + Accessories… Pronovias Fanal dress with vintage hand stitched pearl belt & handmade lace bolero from Mirror Mirror Bridal, Angel, Islington. Pearl earrings, pearl necklace, bracelet & hair comb handmade by Becca at Mirror Mirror. Strappy gold wedges in Jan sale from Monsoon (& then white Converse for party time – present from the Groom)! Handmade wedding rings – made by us at Hatton Garden Jewellry Co in an afternoon then stones placed, engraved & hallmarked – had an amazing day & took lots of photos to create a poster to show our guests on the wedding day!
Finding the dress… A few dress shops in West London, then discovered Mirror Mirror (Angel branch). Found 2 amazing dresses so had to choose between Fanal & Dietrich (white lace dress from 2013 collection) but all bridesmaids preferred Fanal!
Groom’s attire… Charcoal Suits made to measure for Greg & all ushers complete with waistcoats & purple ties. Comic book badge/boutonnieres for all wedding party – personalised by WizzPop (Etsy). Personalised Bass Clef Cufflinks for all groomsmen.
The Readings + Music… Reading by Flight of the Conchords ‘Sellotape’. Music provided by Estilo String Quartet. Fantastic string band with contemporary songs & even had requests like She’s So Lovely by Scouting for Girls! Evening music provided by Rory Merriman – fabulous.
Beautiful bridesmaids… Did not want my bridesmaids to look too ‘bridesmaid-y’! Mixture of Not on the High Street & high St shops in purple & gold theme. All had black/cream boleros with own jewellery & an engraved silver bangle from me. Badge boutonnieres. Flower girl dressed from Monsoon.
The Flowers… Brides flowers handmade silver/cream/gold button & brooch bouquet from IHeartButtons. Matching flower girl wand matched bridal flowers & 2 boutonnieres given FOC. Bridesmaid Flowers – I wanted something different & found (from Folksy) Japanese Silk purple & gold flowers (to match the dresses). Had purple ribbon to tie around wrist (so both hands free to help me) & some with pins on to pin to Pedro’s collar.
The Cake… 4 tiered cake with alternate chocolate & lemon layers with flowers draped down the side from Little Venice Cake Company. Cut using a ceremonial sword!
Your Photographer… The amazing Laura Babb from Babb Photography. Made us feel at ease & was a lot of fun taking shots. Most of the wedding party have said since that didn’t even know she was there (in a good way)!
The Details + Decor… Everything that could’ve been homemade was! From entrance signs to our own wedding rings – we made! Animal Cocktail stirrers (I work with animals), Drinking straws with our name & wedding date on, (Etsy) Timeline photos of how we met, our friends & family & each guest pinned to the wall in ceremony room. Evening guests were on a ‘wall of shame’! Sourced vintage milk bottles with photos of each guest for name places. Guest book was coupled with a polaroid camera & lots of dressing up for guests to take their own picture & write in chalk pen in book – hilarious! Glow sticks, face masks & flip flops provided for guests on the dance floor! Personalised Mr & Mrs sweets with personalised tissues for the ceremony room! Homemade SOS kits for the bathroom for guests (all headache tablets used)! Last minute ginormous James Bond collage made by Fancy Features (& hand delivered)! Huge lego collage for each guest to colour in & then frame after the wedding ;-)
The Honeymoon… Not experienced honeymoon yet as I married a musician (!) but hoping to go to Hawaii later in year (for some much needed sun)!
Memorable moments… As i no longer have my parents with me I chose to be given away by my best friends husband (Kerry) & his Guide Dog (Pedro). This was an extremeley emotional moment for me yet I felt so supported by my friends & family (& especially Kerry & Pedro – who looked amazing in his purple sash & boutonniere)! We also devised a ‘He Said, She Said Game (via Etsy), which was played during the Wedding Breakfast. Absolutely hilarious, definitely broke the ice & we had homemade ‘Winner’s Cups’ for each table & a booby price of wedding toilet roll!
Advice for other couples… Start planning early, utilise friends & family, hire a wedding planner (even if just for the wedding day but ideally by the hour just to focus on particular aspects of day), get friendly with your photographer so there is no
awkwardness on day, never lose yourself in the day – make it relevant to your personalities & finally on the day – enjoy it. It was the longest day of my life – yet it went so quickly!
