WWW real bride Kelly is one of the loveliest people you could meet, and having Kelly as part of the Whimsical Wonderland Weddings family as a real bride has been an honour. So today i am over the moon to be sharing Kelly and Leon’s wedding day.
Kelly and Leon married just after Christmas, and opted for a winter wonderland wedding, which was 2 years in the planning. They chose their local and family church for a meaningful service and 8 gorgeous bridesmaids who looked amazing in their outfits chosen by Kelly and Leon.
Kelly looked incredible in her Vera Wang White Collection dress with Rachel Simpson shoes and Flo & Percy accessories. Leon found his dapper suit in Matalan and teamed it with a Ted Baker shirt, Next tie and shoes. Ahhhh they looked amazing!!!
Thanks so much to the brilliant S6 Photography for sharing his images with us today.
The Proposal…. He proposed on my birthday when I was 36 weeks pregnant, I’d passed my driving test the day before too :-). I woke up the morning of my birthday and wasn’t overly happy as he hadn’t managed to get the day off of work. He gave me a card which I was to open when he had left for work. Inside was a mocked up OK magazine with a scan photo on and an article about me written from our girls point of view, and a note to say to go to our bar in the garden (thank god it was August) for my presents when I had finished reading the card. So I manage to heave my whale like self out of bed and waddle to the garden, just before i got to the bar I checked the driveway for his car, it had gone! I went into the bar and there he was on one knee with the ring I had pointed out in Swarovski a few months before. He couldn’t get his words out and we both burst into floods of tears. I wasn’t at all expecting it.
The Vision for the day…. Wintery wonderland feel, with a black, cream and crystal colour scheme with metallic’s thrown in. Lots and lots of candles, and sparkles.
The planning process…. Honestly. I spent far too much time on the net and doing tonnes of research. The last 6 months I just blitzed everything after I spent far too much time procrastinating over what we should/shouldn’t have. In the end I just wanted to marry my man. It was 2 years and one month overall.
Writing for WWW gave me some focus and helped me figure it all out. I’d really recommend keeping some form of diary, it helps keeps it all in line and manage your vision for the day. I just got to do it with support of the other amazing WWW brides and all of its lovely readers.
Beautiful bridesmaids….. I had my 2 sisters as co-chief bridesmaid – Jodie and Charlotte who wore bespoke fishtail black dresses. We searched high and low for these dresses and nothing really hit the spot. I then found a picture online of what I kind of wanted with a few tweaks which we had made. We kept the accessories simple Jodie wore some Oui/Non bangles from ASOS and Charlotte a necklace from RoseUltra on Folksy. Both a bargain £10 each. They are both vintage lovers and had vintage shoes they chose themselve on the day.
My 3 teenage bridesmaid – our cousins Francesca, Shannon and Alex -wore Black duchess Vivien of Holloway dresses. Francesca wore Iron Fist shoes and a hair accessory by LilaJo on Etsy, shes a little alternative and both had little skulls on. Shannon and Alex had shoes from Debut at Debenhams and headband I found in an antiques centre. They all wore Pamela Mann seamed ‘love’ tights.
My gorgeous little ladies – Elana, Lilly and Eadie had dresses from Baker by Ted Baker at Debenhams and black sashes off of ebay. Elana and Lilly shoes were from Zara and Eadies were from Monsoon.
The Readings & Music…. We had two hymns in church – Amazing Grace, we sang this at my mums funeral and means a lot to me and Come on and Celebrate. this is a happy uplifting hymn and we sing it at the family service we attend with Elana.
Our reading was Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare which was chosen and performed (ha) by my lovely friend Rose.
Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments.
Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove: Oh, no! It is an ever-fixed mark.
That looks on tempests and is never shaken; it is the star to every wandering bark, whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks within his bending sickle’s compass come; love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, but bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved, I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
Our first dance song was The Reason by Hoobastank, we chose it because it makes a lot of sense in our relationship and actually came out the we became official boyfriend and girlfriend which was a weird coincidence.
The Dress + Accessories….. My dress was by Vera Wang from the White collection through Davids Bridal (VW351010) Its a one-shoulder structured fit-and-flare gown with dropped waist and skirt made of hand-cut organza flanges. The bodice is a sculpted grosgrain with covered buttons down the side reminiscent of Hollywood glamour. The skirt detail is hand-cut so each gown has unique swirling cascades. I ordered it over Skype(!) having never tried it on in 2 sizes too small (!!) My gorgeous friend Monique who lives in Massachusetts had to ship it over for me as they do not ship this range internationally.
I had Rachel Simpson (www.rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk) shoes – there was no hesitation with these shoes, they are as beautiful as they are comfortable!
My headband was ‘Devotion’ by Flo & Percy (www.floandpercy.com) and after struggling to find anything as beautiful to compliment I had a bespoke cuff made by Kirstie to match.
Leon surprised me with a gorgeous DKNY watch I had pointed out and so I wore that aswell.
Finding the dress…. I visited a few dress shops locally and totally underwhelmed by the experience I started looking online and came across the Vera Wang collection but they didn’t ship it internationally – after putting a shout out on Facebook my lovely friend offered to help get it to me. I could kiss her – I made me loose weight and I got to wear Vera Wang on my wedding day!!!
Groom’s attire… Leons suit was from……wait for it……you’ll never belive it………Matalan! Yes Matalan, we went all over to Paul Smith, Paul Costelloe, Ted Baker, Reiss, Kooples, Next and the perfect one was £85 from Matalan. Bargain!
HIs shirt was Ted Baker, and tie was from Next as were his shoes. I think he looked pretty darn amazing.
