Sarah and Richard were married in October at Langar Hall, Nottinghamshire. They wanted their wedding to be intimate and relaxed with a hint of vintage.
They styled their wedding decor to perfection, with pretty rustic blooms, wooden place names, brown paper stationery, lavender and an amazing cake.
Sarah looked so beautiful in her custom made dress with Rachel Simpson shoes and side swept hair. Richard decided on a Hugo Boss suit and blue patterned Paul Smith tie. They look gorgeous.
Thanks so much to the lovely Kari Bellamy for sharing her photography with us today.
Names… Sarah & Richard
Wedding Date…. 21st October 2012
The Proposal…. There’s no romantic story to tell here I’m afraid. We just kind of decided.
The Vision for the day…. Relaxed and intimate with a touch of vintage.
The Venue and Planning process…. We had been to Langar Hall several times before we were engaged, and always said we would get married there. It’s a small, family owned, eccentric British country house with an award winning restaurant. The rooms are still laid out in the same way as when it was used only by the family, a sitting room, a study, a dining room…etc, which gave our wedding a very intimate house party feel which is exactly what we wanted. The food was incredible, twice baked cheese soufflé followed by fillet of blackberry farm beef with smoked garlic and parsley velouté, with chocolate pave and passion fruit sorbet for dessert.
I was adamant that I wanted to have a live band rather than a DJ, although Richard was not convinced the venue was suitable. We discussed with our friends band and they were sure that it would not be a problem. They were amazing! They did a set of rock covers including Frank Sinatra ‘Fly me to the moon’, The Zutons ‘Valerie’ and Wigfield ‘Saturday night’. Everyone was dancing and begging for an encore! For evening guests we had a cheese board and later served bacon rolls.
The Dress + Accessories….. As I work as a fashion designer, I knew that I would not be able to find a dress that I was 100% happy with, without spending an absolute fortune or making lots of alterations. I therefore decided to design it and have it made. Too scary not knowing what it looks like until it is made and then it’s too late! I still ended up making several alterations to my dress and would say I was 70% happy in the end… Shoes by Rachel Simpson. Bracelet was Richard’s late grandmothers, my something borrowed and old. His mum was so pleased that I was wearing it. Hair accessory was from Victoria Mary Vintage.
Groom’s attire… Suit: Hugo Boss. Tie: Paul Smith. We provided ties for the best man, ushers and male family members and asked them to wear their own choice of lounge suit, preferably in grey or navy.
The Readings + Music… Entrance: Blur’s ‘The Universal’ performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Signing of register & Photos: The White Stripes ‘We’re going to be friends’, The Beatles ‘In my life’ and Groove Armada ‘At The River’. Exit of bride & groom: Bob Dylan ‘I want you’. First Dance: Blur ‘The Universal’.
Reading 1: Extract from Bob Dylan’s ‘The Wedding Song’ read by Richards’ sister Eleanor, who still read for us despite a very bad back! Reading 2: ‘He said, She said’ which was a poem written by my friend Sacha about myself and Richard. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
Beautiful bridesmaids….. I had one ‘best girl’, my best friend Kate. She was wonderful, beautiful and did a great speech. Her shoes were also Rachel Simpson and her dress Whistles.
The Flowers… I was going for an autumnal, wild look without going for golden/brown colours. Hopefully it worked! By Katie Teague.
The Cake… Beautifully hand made by Richards’ mother Carole. Many hours spent making each individual flower and testing out shades of purple!
Your Photographer…. Kari Bellamy – I knew from the moment I saw her photos that she would be perfect for us. We could not have been more pleased with the way she captured the day in such a natural way.
The Details + Decor…. As Langar Hall is an interestingly decorated venue, with lots of art, ornaments and eccentric wallpapers, we kept décor to minimum other than flowers and candles. We both agreed the favours can be very expensive and then often get left behind. Instead I designed individual menu’s for each guest as a keepsake, along with dried lavender and stencilled wooden tag place settings.
The Honeymoon…. New York, accompanied by hurricane Sandy. Disaster. Here’s to a much better marriage!
Memorable moments… Sacha reading her poem. Band playing Foo Fighters ‘All my life’. We had put this song on our list of requests, but when the band had arrived at the venue, they thought it was unsuitable (too heavy and loud!) and dropped it from the set list. In the end, they went for it. It was incredible seeing all our friends AND family jumping around to it.
