It’s time already for part 2 of Kelly and Leon’s amazing winter wedding… wohoooo.
After their lovely wedding ceremony Kelly and Leon headed to Hotel Van Dyk, Derbyshire for their wedding reception. Monochrome was the glamorous colour scheme of the day with plenty of sparkle and candlelight.
Beautiful blooms in cream with berries, an epic ruffled wedding cake, a nod to their love of films, chess pieces, a blackboard table plan and an American letterbox are just a few of the amazing touches they put together. Ekkk.
Thanks so much to S6 Photography for sharing his brilliant photography with us today.
The Venue… The ceremony took place at our local and now family church as it is where Elana was christened – St Thomas Church, Kimberworth, Rotherham.
The reception took place at the Hotel Van Dyk, Clowne, Chesterfield. I felt really strongly that I only wanted a boutique style hotel, being a bit of a diva I wanted to be the only bride there (ha) and have a lovely calm breakfast the next morning with only our nearest and dearest.
The Van Dyk ticked all our boxes, the function room is beautiful, the hotel in general is warm and comfortable and beautiful. The staff are fantastic and cannot do enough for you and as food was a big deal it massively ticked that box too.
The Flowers… I wanted simple but effective flowers, my mum didn’t like coloured flowers and as she isnt here to help me plan my day I tried to keep parts of her in the wedding I knew this would be one way I could, I want big creamy roses, black berries and greenery. I absolutely adored they way they turned out, my florist really got what I wanted and is all round amazing. My bridesmaids had wrist corsages as I felt their dresses were so fabulous they shouldn’t be covered by a bouquet.
Any local brides get Sasha on your list she is awesome http://www.forgetmenotrotherham.co.uk/
The Cake… I went to the Save The Date event in Derby throughout my planning and this is where I found Natalie from Yummy Little Cakes – I originally had my heart set on the 5 tier version of what we had but I won 80 cupcakes from Fancie (www.fancie.co.uk) on Brides Up North Blog so scaled it down to a 3 tier as I’m not really into the cupcake tower thing and NEEDED that cake. I topped it off with a bespoke topper from Miss Cake (www.misscake.co.uk) Leon had a mini when we met and it’s a little in joke between us, as the first time he dropped me off home he left the handbrake off (so he could open my door for me) and I lived on a veeery steep hill at the time!!
The cupcakes were gorgeous and we have had people commenting since and my god was the cake goooood even 10 days after the wedding it was moist and tasty. We had a tier of Lemon sponge, vanilla sponge and chocolate sponge! Yum!
The Details & Decor…. Oh gosh where so I start – I didn’t have anything in the church in the end. Just a basket of our Orders of Service made and designed by me and some confetti envelopes – glassine envelopes with Throw Me stamped on them filled with biodegradable confetti – simple.
The venue we had floral centrepieces by our florist. My tables names where movies and quotes from the films that are relevant to us – our table was Some Like It Hot – the quote ‘Its not how long you wait, it’s who your waiting for’ for example. I made these myself, I spray painted some frames and popped a scaled down movie poster in.
The table plan was a piece of foam board spray painted with blackboard paint, mounted onto a frame and I added matching lists to match the rest of the stationary. The place names were chess pieces -Leon and his dad have always played chess and this honoured that, I covered the female ones in glitter and the men’s stayed black.
We had a wish tree (from The Range) and I stamped the back of the labels using a star stamp that had my new initial in it (to carry the theme from our invites through). Our post box was a typical American style post box which we had made with our names on from Bafain on Etsy. We had signs on the back of our chairs also from etsy by rinconcorner.
The other bits and bobs were bits I have collected over the last 2 years, I wanted lots of candles and so picked candle holders up from lots of places – charity shops, Matalan, The Range, Next.
I also had Yankee Candles burning in the evening.
Leon and I had Vera Wang toasting flutes and my Stepmum bought us a matching Vera Wang cake cutting set.
I also had a candy buffet, I was insistent on this I am a Pic and Mix fiend and it was so popular on the night. I bought some jars off of a friend and the rest were either from TK Maxx or Dunelm. The sweets we got from Makro and the cupcakes were the ones mentioned before from Fancie. I made the labels myself and the tongs were off of ebay.
I put together little bags to keep the flowergirls entertained with toys, colouring books and a disposable camera in. The flowergirl bags were from the fabulous Alphabet bags (www.alphabetbags.com).
Your Photographer…. Mr Dennis from S6 Photography – I can talk about this amazing man for days and not get bored. He is just fantastic – from booking to even now he has been wonderful. We always said we need a photographer that we could imagine going to the pub with and Jon is that. We wanted to feel comfortable be able to have a laugh.
We also had Kayti from Kayti Lauren Weddings making a little movie of our day, again Kayti was fabulous and a fantastic addition to our day. The video we have received really captured our day perfectly. We just love it.
The Honeymoon…. We don’t know yet, Leon is a sales manager and has worked every day since the wedding so we haven’t had chance to decide yet. We are booking a log cabin in North Yorkshire for March and I am a bridesmaid in Crete in June so fitting anything in will be difficult anyway.
Memorable moments… I cannot pick out anything specific we honestly had the most wonderful day – other then a little hairdresser issue on the morning of the wedding which my fantastic hair and make up artist sorted out – Jenn Edwards you are an absolute superstar. Everything ran really smoothly and we couldn’t have asked for anything better.
Advice for other couples… Don’t sweat the small stuff – it honestly really doesn’t matter on the day. Take a step back and look around at all your nearest and dearest in the same room having a fabulous time. I just picked things I liked I didn’t have a theme as such but it all worked really well.
Book the best photographer you can afford!!! VVVVVV important and I cannot stress this enough.
