Rob and Ashley  met at a mutual friends party and Rob proposed in the South of France. Now Rob and Ashley are planning their English country wedding and so had an engagement shoot to represent them as a couple.

They decided to have viewmaster save the dates… brilliant!! So of course they included them into their shoot alongside their beautiful classic orange BMW on the Southbank. I love these intimate and quirky portaits, oh and i so want a viewmaster now hehe.

Ashley told me; “I (Ashley) moved to London from the US in 2006 to get her Masters Degree and met Rob, a Hertfordshire boy, 3 years later. We are members of our local rowing club and love country walks, London culture and our classic orange BMW, called Geoff, who we have twice driven across Europe.”

“We met at the launch party of a mutual friend’s not for profit organization in 2009. I saw Rob from across the room just as he was about to leave. He came to say goodbye to our friend who was chatting to me, and I asked him to stay for a drink instead! We talked until he really did have to run for his late train home. Just before he left he asked for my number, which I actually forgot and had to look up in my phone. When our friend saw Rob the following day she cheekily told him that she wanted an invite to the inevitable wedding, which she still ribs us about today.”

“Rob proposed to me in the South of France in a candle lit restaurant outside of Nice. He had some champagne sent to the table which I tried to send back because I thought it was a mistake, before I realised what was happening. He pulled out the ring, got on one knee and proposed in the middle of the restaurant, sparking tears of joy from us and applause from the other diners.”

“When we set about planning the wedding, one of the first things we knew was that we wanted a fantastic photographer to capture the emotion and fun of our big day. We both believe that photos will be the window back to our wedding in years to come. We were thrilled when we met the amazing Laura Babb as we really love her demeanour, her framing and also her talent for seeing the perfect shot that others might miss. We are really looking forward to her bringing her creativity to our big day as she did our engagement shoot!”

“We really wanted to incorporate meaningful elements of our life together in our engagement shoot. With that in mind we arranged with Laura to start at a London rowing club, we had Geoff along with us and then we moved on to the Southbank in London as that is where we spent most of our first dates, and is one of our favourite areas of London.

However the biggest for us, was that we planned to use the engagement photos for our save the date, which was a personalised 3d Viewmaster. When we found image3d.com we immediately knew that had to find a way to use them, because we both loved them when we were little. They work perfectly as our save the dates; they are a bit unexpected, different and fun. We also like the idea that in years to come we can continue to make more reels! Laura really got into the spirit of this idea and we think the reels came out great!”

“We are getting married in May at Northbrook Park in Surrey. If all goes to plan we will have about 35 friends and family coming over from the US, as well as our friends and Rob’s family from the UK. The venue is a walled garden with an orangery and we are planning a romantic but fun English country garden theme. On the day we will have lawn games, the viewmasters and of course our little orange BMW. (the graphic for the viewmaster reels were designed by Emily Sell www.emilysell.com)”
