Ben and Kat held their September wedding in Kat’s childhood village, with a church service followed by a marquee reception. They wanted the day to be relaxed and natural with a wonderful yellow and blue colour scheme.
Kat wore a beautiful lace gown with her hair natural and flowing, while Ben wore a smart tailored suit with blue tie. The bridesmaids also looked lovely in blue maid to measure dresses.
I so love the pretty flowers, the cheese cake, the bunting, the pom poms and the fantastic cricket shots. Perfect.
Thanks so very much to the amazing Babb Photo (who has a brand new sparkly website yay!) for sharing her images with us today.
Names…. Ben and Kat
Wedding Date…. 01.09.12
The Proposal…. at sunset overlooking the sea, on Kat’s 30th birthday whilst on a surprise holiday in a sleeping fishing town in Portugal.
The Vision for the day…. We wanted it to feel relaxed and natural. The colour theme came from our love of Provence in France. I adore sunflowers and powder blue, they look fantastic together.
The Planning process…. Kat organises events for a living and there was a Google Doc up and running within a week of the engagement!
The Venue… the village Kat grew up in. The village church then a marquee in the garden of local pub overlooking corn fields.
The Dress + Accessories….. The Dress was made of French Lace from Angelica Bridal in Camden Passage in Angel. Shoes and earrings were vintage. My auntie found the shoes in Spitalfields market and they were perfect!
Finding the dress…. I knew I wanted a dress that went over my shoulders as the plan was to dance till I dropped and didn’t want to risk it slipping down. I think i tried on about 25 dresses! the dress I chose was the one I felt the most comfortable in and myself as well as feeling glamorous if possible! Wearing it I felt amazing, I wish I could wear it again!
Groom’s attire… tailored suit from the Cad and the Dandy on Savile Row.
The Readings + Music…. we chose ‘This Day I Married My Best Friend’, an extract from 1 Corinthians 13 and the lyrics from ‘A Bridge over Troubled Water’. Ben’s uncle played the organ and our very good friends Fletcher and James played two of our favourite songs on guitar while we signed the register.
Beautiful bridesmaids….. These were my sister and my very best friend. They wore power blue dresses that were made to measure.
The Flowers… Sunflowers galore! And heaps of blue flowers too, although I have no idea what they were called. The arrangements were done by two amazing family friends and my auntie
The Cake… We have a cheese cake from the Teddington Cheese Shop. One of our friends described it as a cheese theme park :)
Your Photographer…. the lovely Laura Babbs. Laura is great photographer. She made us feel very at ease and we love her arty and alternative style.
The Details + Decor…. My mum and a very good friend made over 150 meters of bunting! We created a pom pom tree in the garden, which was still in situ that last time I checked! and handmade chutney in little jars as favours with polka dot lids.
The Honeymoon…. We’re off to Cuba and Cost Rica next week and can’t wait!
Memorable moments… the day was everything we hoped it could be and more. I loved every second of it. The most special thing was having all of our friends and family together at once, which will probably never happen again. I wish we could do it all over again.
Advice for other couples… make sure you stay true to yourself, there are so many amazing wedding ideas out there and I could have had several different types of weddings! But the one we had was very personal to us and wouldn’t have changed a thing about it.
Just so gorgeous!! I have to say i love a bride that does a spot of bowling on her wedding day, just brilliant. Thanks so much to Ben and Kat for sharing their wedding with us today XOXO Lou
