Heather and Ethan were married in a church service followed by a pool side marquee reception at Heather’s parents house. They wanted their wedding have a secret garden feminine feel with a fresh pink and green colour scheme.
Heather looks beautiful in her lace gown and that amazing bouquet, while Ethan went for a black suit with pink floral tie and they both looked amazing.
I so love the pretty bridesmaid dresses, the pink cake and the sweet jam jars. Thanks so much to the fantastic Cherry Red Photography for sharing their images with us today.
Names…. Heather and Ethan
Wedding Date…. 1st September 2012
The Proposal…. Ethan proposed on the 24th August 2011 before he left for Dubai for 3 months. He took me to the beach with a picnic basket full of delicious naughty nibbles and a bottle of my favourite wine. He’d laid out a blanket for us and we enjoyed our food and he gave me a card he’d written which was all very romantic! As I was reading it a rainbow appeared in the distance it was all very perfect. As all this was happening floating Chinese lanterns started to appear from behind the beach huts (these lanterns are my favourite I think they’re so beautiful). I got up to see where they were coming from and then I turned around to get Ethan to follow me he was down on one knee! He said lovely things….I said yes…..I cried and forgot all about the lanterns. He suggested we went to see where they were coming from, a big group of friends and family were releasing the lanterns! It was such a surprise! We all went back to Ethan’s parents’ house for champagne and celebrations. What a wonderful night. Pictures are on my facebook profile of the whole thing shot by Ethan’s mum “Maria Scard Photography”.
The Vision for the day…. I wanted the wedding in my parents back garden set around the pool with floating candles on it. I wanted lots of candles and for the lights to reflect off the water. I wanted to incorporate the garden as much as possible and use its “secret garden” feel along with a marquee to create a floating, feminine haven to celebrate our big day in.
The Planning process… I’m big on planning, love to be organised and know whats going on all the time! I made a folder full of colour ideas, contacts, dress designs, sizes of brides maids, marquee supplier, caterers etc etc. Every detail was planned minute by minute for the whole day. The best man, maid of honour, photographer, grooms house and brides house had separate running sheets of who needed to be where to do what at what time. I was in control while appearing to have relinquished all responsibility for the big day. I kept up to date using bridal magazine suggestions of when to do what. It was tricky hosting the wedding from my parents’ house because everything had to be brought in from sound systems to table linen, glasses to helium canisters.
Budget…. I wanted to budget £7000 for the day but ended up spending £9000.
The Venue… We had a small marquee in the front garden to serve canapés with some chairs and tables. The main marquee was set in the paved area of the back garden covering the pool and adjoining the house. Tables were set around the pool. The caters set up in the adjoining back garden where plenty of outdoor seating surrounded where the caterers were serving.
The Dress + Accessories….. Strapless with a small sash tied in the middle. Little sequin and pearl detail on the dress was highlighted by a pearl necklace, earrings and bracelet. The veil also had little diamante sparkles on its fringe to match the head band which was decorated with diamantes also. Flat shoes (so I could be the same height as my short husband) with little pearl detail on the fronts.
Finding the dress…. I got my dress from Whyte Weddings in Worthing. I knew I wanted a dress with lace and found the perfect one designed by WhiteOne. I’d cut out pictures from bridal magazines of designs I’d liked so went shopping with a vision of what I wanted. I hate shopping so picked a shop and didn’t leave until I had one I liked. I tried on 10 dresses before I found my one, my mum cried when I walked out in it, I knew it had to be the one.
Groom’s attire… Ethan wore a standard suit, he wanted a black suit with a white shirt and a pink floral tie to co-ordinate with the colour scheme.
The Readings + Music…. I walked down the aisle to Ben Howard “old pine” and we walking out to Reliant K “Must have done something right”. We had acoustic music like jack Johnson and Ed Sheeran playing while people ate and our first dance was to Jack Johnson “Better Together”
Beautiful bridesmaids… They wore pastel green dresses with white pearl accessories, hair curly and up with neutral shoes of their choice.
The Flowers… I don’t even know what my flowers were I just took samples of the colours I wanted and some pictures of bouquets I liked to the florist and left it in her hands!
The Cake… 3 tiers of vanilla sponge with white chocolate butter cream icing in a swirly, glittery pink! Yum!
Your Photographer…. Cherry Red Photography…..AMAZING!
The Details + Decor…. pink and green pastels with white accessories. Some vintage details like my pretty little candelabras. Lots of candles in jars giving off lovely light. The garden itself provided the secret garden effect.
The Honeymoon…. 2 weeks all inclusive in the Maldives.
Memorable moments… Ethan being so keen to marry me that he interrupted the vicar to boldly say “I will!” far too soon…. sweet.
Advice for other couples… Don’t do it all on your own but don’t let the people you ask for help make it into their wedding. If you can afford not to don’t skrimp on the things you really want, the day does go quickly and you cant take in every detail but when it all comes together the feel of the wedding is what you wanted it to be and your guests will notice the details!
Credit where credit is due…
