Lizzie and Rob were married in June at the Rayleigh Windmill, Rayleigh, Essex followed by a reception The Barge at Battlesbridge. They wanted a small and intimate wedding, which was quiet and understated.
Lizzie wore a beautiful dress from Coast with sweet bright red Mary Jane’s, while Rob wore a custom made suit with a blue tie. Don’t they look lovely?!
I love the backdrop of the beautiful windmill, the pretty red roses and the Union Jack bunting. A simple, unfussy and beautiful wedding.
Thanks so much to White With Two Sugars for sharing their lovely imagery today.

Names…. Lizzie and Rob
Wedding Date…. 1st of June, 2012
The Proposal…. 20th November 2010. Rob surprised me with a trip to Edinburgh, a place that we both love (we both did shows at the Fringe when we were at uni). He planned it with a friend who works for the BBC, who told me she had tickets for us to go and see Strictly being filmed in Blackpool. We’re not really Strictly fans, but I thought it might be a laugh, so went along with it, thinking that’s where we were going! But when we got in the cab at 6 am, Rob said “Gatwick, please,” and told me we were going to Edinburgh. I text my family in the cab saying, “Rob has surprised me with a trip to Edinburgh – he has outdone himself this time!” We went for a very rainy walk up Calton Hill (view over all of Edinburgh), where he didn’t get down on one knee because it was so wet, but proposed anyway! He had previously spoken to my parents, who had kept it a secret for several weeks. We stayed at a gorgeous boutique hotel, and celebrated with dinner at the Malt Whiskey Society.
The Vision for the day…. We wanted a small, intimate ceremony, as we were going on to have a Reception in Belgium a few days later. We didn’t want a registry office. Quiet, simple, understated, with fabulous photography!
The Planning process…. We found the Windmill, and knew that was where we wanted to get married. We then sampled many local country pubs in the search for the right one!
The Venue… Rayleigh Windmill, Rayleigh, Essex. Followed by The Barge at Battlesbridge.
The Dress + Accessories….. Very simple white silk dress from Coast, shiny red Mary Janes from Jones, a red rose in my hair, and a pearl ring that used to belong to my late grandmother.
Groom’s attire… A suit he had made in Singapore on a business trip and saved for the occasion!
The Readings + Music…. My Grandad read The Art Of A Good Marriage by Wilfred Arlan Peterson, and Kim (Rob’s best woman) read Love by Roy Croft. We walked in to a piano version of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, we had Ellie Goulding’s version of Your Song for the signing of the register, and we walked out to Jack Johnson’s Better Together.
Beautiful bridesmaids….. My sister – but she dressed herself!
The Flowers… Very simple red roses and lots of greenery. My grandma made the arrangement for the registrar’s table, which we took with us to the pub where it was the centrepiece for lunch.
The Cake… No cake, but some fabulous desserts!
Your Photographer…. The truly wonderful and amazing Georgina whitewithtwosugars.
The Honeymoon…. We went on to a big reception in Belgium, followed by a few nights in Brussels in a spa hotel. We then waited 8 weeks and went to Vietnam!
Memorable moments… My sister touching up my makeup halfway through the signing of the register as she was concerned that I’d cried my foundation off!
Advice for other couples… If you’re getting married in Essex, don’t bother with a registry office, go to the Windmill!
