A Simple + Pretty Pastel DIY Wedding

pastel diy wedding

Happy Friday you lovely lot :-) Before you encounter a weekend of crafting and wedding planning, i have a super beautiful crafty wedding to share with you.

Clare and Steve were married in August on the hottest day of the year at The Tin Tabernacle, Barcombe. They wanted a day that was simple, pretty, DIY and full of love. I so love the romantic, pastel feel to their wedding, with doilies, bunting and pretty blooms in bottles decorating their venue.

Clare looks incredible in her vintage style tea length dress, t bar shoes and pretty vintage gloves, i do love a bride with a fringe :-) Steve went for a lovely pale grey suit from Reiss with pale blue tie. Don’t they make the cutest couple?! Such a beautiful day.

Thanks so much to the wonderful Sacco & Sacco Photography for sharing their photographs with us today.

Names…. Clare & Steve

Wedding Date…. August 18th 2012

The Proposal… Beside a canal in Amsterdam, May 2011.

The Vision for the day…. A simple, pretty wedding, designed entirely by ourselves which incorporated lovely food, countryside, DIY and love!

The Planning process…. Lots of trawling ebay and Etsy for vintage tea tins and bottles!

The Venue… The Tin Tabernacle, Barcombe.  I found the venue, which is just 4 miles from where I grew up, having dismissed the regular venues as being too formal or ‘just not us’.  It was perfect for the vibe that we were trying to achieve.

The Dress + Accessories….. Dress by Ellis and from Blessings in Brighton.  Shoes from Zara.  Lace gloves from antique shop in Lewes.  Hair accessory from bethanylorelle on Etsy.

Finding the dress…. Again, lots of vintage ideas and searching, arriving at a modern dress in a vintage style, I mean, nobody has a waist that small any more surely?!!

Groom’s attire…  Suit by Reiss.

The Readings + Music…. Ceremony was bespoke and written by us and our celebrant. The rings were passed down through our guests whilst the ceremony took place. Reading of Rilke by Clare’s brother, Moon River played on the piano and sung by friend. Candles were lit by both sets of parents as a homage to each element and their attributes. Lastly, an Apache blessing.  Eclectic!

Beautiful bridesmaids…..  Sarah, maid of honour, best mate and stagette organiser extraordinaire!  Esme – with the camera and stunning red hair (Clare’s daughter), Maddie – flower girl (Steve’s niece).

The Flowers… I visited the wholesaler a week before the wedding and ordered some beautiful flowers, which was a first, and very enjoyable!  Friend Nancy made the buttonholes, bridesmaid’s bouquets and table arrangements.  My bouquet was from Flint in Lewes. Outside plants grown and nurtured by Alan, Clare’s dad.

The Cake… White chocolate & Limoncello with strawberries made by cake maker par excellence Steve’s Mum, Joyce

Your Photographer…. Sacco & Sacco – Jayne helped to capture and preserve our beautiful day which, as the years go on, will be a so valuable.

The Details + Decor…. Lots of homemade bunting, doilies and hard work from friends and family.

The Honeymoon…. Postponed until Next May, we plan on going to Marrakesh!

Memorable moments… So many but a lovely one was decorating the Tin Tabernacle the day before with friends and family. Once finished, it was just me and my Mum left inside, we had such a beautiful moment, where it all looked perfect and we just smiled and knew it was going to be a good day ahead! It was the hottest day of the year and the night time brought the most amazing clear skies and, with being so rural, the stars were so vivid; it was a perfect end to a magical day!

Advice for other couples… Insist on doing it how you want it, even if it means making or sourcing things yourselves – but don’t overcomplicate it, keep it simple and don’t micromanage  or  leave yourself too much to do on the day  – this was advice we were given and we stuck to it!  The day flies by in a whirl just take it all in and enjoy your special day!!
