Lets get this week started shall we? I have been dying to share this wedding :-)
Thomas and Kelly were married in May at Duncton Village Hall, West Sussex. I am head-over-heels for their quirky, colourful DIY wedding, and know you guys will be too.
They wanted their wedding to eclectic, vintage and relaxed with a village fete feel. They kept to a low budget by handcrafting most of their wedding from the bunting to the flowers and even the invitations. It’s the sweetest day ever.
Thanks so much to the amazing Helen Cawte Photography for sharing her beautiful photography with us today, here is what she had to say about the day;
“Instead of jabbering on in far too much detail about what exactly I loved about this wedding I’m just going to say I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS WEDDING! Tom and Kelly are two of the nicest people EVER and they had the most incredible day without spending the earth. It was full of smiles and love and lots of gorgeous touches – Kelly even made all the bouquets and buttonholes herself!! A very talented and gorgeous young lady :) My assistant, Camilla and I really enjoyed ourselves and particularly loved the hog roast! A huge thank you to Kelly & Tom, you guys are amazing xxx”

Names…. Thomas & Kelly
Wedding Date…. 19/05/2012
The Proposal…. In the French Alps on a snowboarding trip last year. I proposed on the first morning. We got swine flu the day after. Generally considered a disasterous holiday.
The Vision for the day…. Relaxed and informal. Personal and homemade. Vintage and eclectic summer village fete type feel. Neither of us like being the centre of attention so we wanted the day to be about everyone there, not just us . Early on, Tom specified that he required a hog roast.
The Planning process…. Involved weekly trips to various carboot sales and sweeps of local charity swaps for a whole year, collecting crockery, glassware and decorations for 100 people, as well as beer steins and gifts.
Budget…. We have no idea of final budget. We didn’t really set out with one in mind, just to do it as cheap as possible whilst still being exactly what we wanted. It was probably around £6000 for everything excluding the honeymoon.
The Venue… Duncton Village Hall, West Sussex. It’s a lovely village hall next to a croquet club, surrounded by lawns and looking over the south downs. It was even built by Tom’s Dad’s building company 12 years ago.
Finding the dress…. From Leonie Claire, Brighton. Kelly chose the first dress she tried on.
Groom’s attire… From Ben Sherman, Carnaby Street. Tom chose the first suit he tried on. Then he went for lunch.
The Readings + Music…. A friend of ours played piano for Kelly’s entrance (an instrumental of a Nick Cave song) and Tom spent most of the 3 months before the wedding perfecting playlists for the afternoon and evening. We hired a PA system and lights and connected them to Tom’s laptop, thus avoiding the usual sight of an obese man playing chumbawamba and talking over every mix.
Beautiful bridesmaids…. Dresses from H&M in the sale. Bargain.
The Flowers… Kelly made the bouquets and buttonholes herself. All other flowers were from Tom’s mum’s garden.
The Cake… Made by my Tom’s mum, with a nice bit of carboot sale tat on top.
Your Photographer…. The amazing Mrs Helen Hoile AKA Helen Cawte Photography.
The Details + Decor…. Homemade bunting. Vintage glassware and sweetjars, lanterns and birdcages all from various carboot sales and charity shops. Tom designed the invites, orders of service and table names.
The Honeymoon…. Pulau Perhentian, Malaysia. It takes 48hrs, three flights, various taxis and two speedboat rides to get there, but it’s well worth it. The most beautiful place we’ve ever been.
Memorable moments… The lack of rain and abundance of sunshine.

[...] Village halls can cost as little as £20 an hour to hire and with a little bit of thoughtful decoration, a very plain space can be transformed into something gorgeous. You can’t beat some homemade bunting and fairy lights. And paper flowers and garlands of all sorts, from hearts to butterflies, are simple to make with a bit of patience and can really add character and charm. Image sourced here. [...] -

Wow that's a lot of bunting! Very impressive! I love the table plan - nice personal touch that says a lot about the couple.

I know I'm, biased, it was afterall my little soldier's wedding, but I can truly recommend a "HOMEMADE" wedding. Everyone was involved and we all had a beautiful, memorable day. Your photos are gorgeous, and really suit the feel of Thomas and Kelly's wedding - thank you Helen
Jessie says:
Wow, I love all the photography work, and I really love the purple dresses. I'm helping a friend plan for a wedding venue on the beach in Montereyy, and I'd love to include some purple.
