A Stylish + Relaxed Castle Wedding in Scotland ~ UK Wedding Blog ~ Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Morning lovelies :-) I have another glorious wedding to share today and quite a few in the queue too… just to tease you hehe!!

Anyway… Lisa and Tom were married in April of last year, at the stunning Melville Castle in Scotland. They wanted to combine their English and Scottish heritage using the details and flowers.

I so so love Lisa’s wedding day look, her natural hair style, the amazing birdcage veil and her beautiful Justin Alexander dress, oh and not forgetting the Jimmy Choos. Tom’s grey suit looks amazing too.

I love the fact these two just don’t stop smiling all day long.

Thanks so much to the brilliant Archibald Photography for sharing their lovely images with us today:

 Names…. Tom and Lisa

Wedding Date…. 22nd April 2011

The Proposal…. Tom proposed to me while we were on holiday in Portugal with a Mulberry Alexa handbag.  I was so excited by the bag that it took me ages to look inside and discover the ring!  I did a lot of really ugly crying then.

The Vision for the day…. We wanted a fun and relaxed wedding and as neither of us are religious, we decided to have a humanist ceremony which felt absolutely right for us.  The most important things to Tom and I are friends and family so we really just wanted our wedding to be a cracking day for all of us.

The Planning process…. My Mum very quickly turned into a superb wedding planner!  As Tom and I live in London but were getting married in Edinburgh where i’m from, she did a lot of the planning with us.  My bridesmaids and friends were also amazing at helping out.  I found that a bottle or 2 of Prosecco with the girls helped with any stressful moments…

The Venue… Melville Castle was our beautiful venue.

The Dress + Accessories….. My dress was by Justin Alexander and came from Pretty Woman in Edinburgh.  I wanted something a bit different to wear on my head so had a hat made by Stephen Jones from his shop in London’s Covent Garden.

Finding the dress…. I went looking for a dress in Edinburgh with my Mum.  We tried a few shops and the dress I chose in the end in Pretty Woman was tried on as a ‘wild card’.  It was so different to the image I had in mind but as soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one.  Especially when I looked at my Mum and she was crying.

Groom’s attire… Tom’s suit came from Reiss and his pocket square from Thomas Pink.

The Readings + Music…. My bridesmaid Claire read Robert Burns’s poem, My love is like a red red  rose and my sister in law Kim read the Oasis song ‘Songbird’

Beautiful bridesmaids…..  I am lucky enough to still be close to my school friends and I couldn’t choose between them so I just had all 5 of them!

The Flowers…  they came from a florist (Val Easton) who is local to the village Lisa is from, Longniddry in East Lothian

The Cake… my amazing bridesmaid, Judith, made our cupcakes for the day.  They were beautiful looking and tasted fantastic.

Your Photographer….  Mark Archibald was our photographer.  He was fantastic at putting everyone at such ease that the resulting images were stunning.

The Honeymoon….  We went to beautiful Mauritius for our honeymoon

Advice for other couples…  Take time to stop, breathe and savour the moment.

Thanks so very much to Tom and Lisa for sharing their beautiful wedding with us. Are you planning a wedding combining different heritages? I’d love to hear from you below :-) XOXO Lou

What a beautiful wedding! I've just ordered my dress from 'Pretty Woman' in Edinburgh too. The ladies in there are lovely! For our wedding next April (which is also a Humanist ceremony) we are combining my Welshness and hubby-to-be's Scottishness with daffodils, thistles and white heather. I have Clogau gold jewellery that I'll be wearing on the day and we are thinking of having my mum's amazing welsh cakes and good old scottish tunnocks tea cakes for the drinks reception. :)
