Morning {www}ers, i am super excited by the wedding i have to start the week with.
The beautiful bride Emma, is one of my wedding industry friends and a www sponsor with her company Beau Buttons, in which Emma creates stunning button bouquets. I have to admit as i was preparing this feature i did get a little emotional :-) as i met Emma and her family back in November and they are the loveliest of people.
Emma and Scott were married in December at one of my favourite local venues, the gorgeous South Farm in Royston. Emma and Scott had an amazing team of suppliers involved in their wedding, which hardly comes as a surprise with Emma’s wedding industry credentials :-)
They wanted to create a fun 1950s inspired winter wedding, which was also suitable for their children to enjoy. Emma wanted to DIY her way to a beautifully crafted day, and even had craft days with her bridesmaids. After All Emma does have artistic and crafty skills so she certainly put those to good use and the bouquets she created for her wedding were just amazing. There are details galore here, and so much inspiration for you all.
I totally love Emma’s bridal look, with an original 1950s wedding dress, fun red accents and those fabulous shoes. Lets not forget Scott wearing those red converse… too cool!
I am also thrilled to be sharing one of my industry friends work for the first time today, the lovely Emma Woodhouse AKA The Wedding Reporter, who was at Emma and Scott’s wedding to record their wedding with beautiful words. Here is an extract of their wedding report by Emma.
“Voices hushed at the sound of heels clicking across the tiled floor. Heads swivelled and eyes lit up to see a bevy of bridesmaids casually entering the room in a stylish sweep of red and black. With mismatching little black dresses, individual shoes and red flowers in their hair, Emma’s stylish entourage made their way to the front rows of the room to take their seats for her arrival.
Huge smiles broke out across their faces in anticipation of everybody else’s reaction to what was coming. As they pulled hankies and cameras from their clutch bags, they chatted excitedly across the aisle to other guests, steeling themselves for the bride’s entrance.
“I’ve already cried once so far!” exclaimed one of the bridesmaids, fumbling for a pack of tissues. “There’s no way I’m going to make it through this with dry eyes!”
Beneath the hum of excited chatter, Scott and Danny stood at the front of the room, joking with the registrar. Despite the jovial outward appearance, Scott’s hands belied his nerves with constant motion, wringing one another, unable to stay dormant in the final few moments.
The registrar asked the assembly to stand and the feverish chatter subsided into hushed anticipation as every head in the room turned to face the entrance. The sound of The Dixie Cups harmonious voices seeped into the room and grins broke out along the aisle as the sound of Going to the Chapel floated down the aisle before the bridal party.
Two flower girls appeared in the doorway like little blonde Christmas angels. Wearing matching white dresses with black sashes and red fur stoles they marched into the room, looking up at the sea of faces staring back at them. Proudly holding their black and white button bouquets in front of them, they confidently walked the length of the aisle with excited, fixed grins on their faces.
The two little girls prepared the way for Jack and Molly and the congregation collectively, and audibly, swooned. A sighing coo circulated underneath the rafters of the barn as Jack, in waistcoat and red tie, skilfully held the ring cushion aloft in front of him, whilst his sister in her pure white dress and fur stole carried her own red button bouquet.
The older bridesmaids audibly buzzed and leant forward in anticipation to catch a first glimpse of what was next.
Stepping through the decorated double doors on the arm of her mother, Emma held her head high in excited happiness as she surveyed the room before her. The matching red splashes of her shoes and lipstick together with her red button bouquet injected colour, triumph and celebration into the room whilst her knee length, long-sleeved lace tea dress cinched her figure to cinematically tiny proportions.
Glancing over at her mother with a private giggle, Emma was the very picture of a glowing bride. She smiled so broadly at her guests but her eyes darted to the length of the room, desperately seeking out Scott. With the faces of the wedding party turned towards her and spilling out into the aisle she could not see him; her heart pumped faster, her smile grew wider.
And then there they were, facing each other at the head of the aisle, in front of all their friends and family. Speechless and overwhelmed, Scott fought to retain his composure as his fiancé laughed giddily at his appreciative response. The music swelled as Scott took her hands, looked over every inch of her and, when words failed him for the emotion choked in his throat, mouthed “Wow” with unabashed admiration.”
Wow isn’t that beautiful, i bet you cannot wait to scroll down now :-)
Thanks so much to the amazing Haywood Jones Photography for sharing her gorgeous images with us today…

Names…. Emma and Scott
Wedding Date…. 16/12/11
The Proposal…. A very sweet proposal on the beautiful Cornish Coast in which Scott and my two children pretended to ‘find’ a diamond ring in the sand one evening!
The Vision for the day…. An informal, fun, winter wedding full of 50’s treasures and very kid friendly! We had a fabulous singing trio, The Scarlet Starlets, to entertain our guests after the ceremony. In the evening the marvellous Traditional Travelling Sweet Shop set up in the barn to treat our guests.
The Planning process…. I am definitely not the type to become a crazed bridzilla! Although I did immerse myself fully in the planning process and loved every minute of it. Hours were spent (and lost) googling and searching on wedding blogs for inspiration. I am a creative soul and most of my bridesmaids are crafty types too, so we held a few ‘craft days’ in which to create all the visual elements of the day. Got to say… these were THE most fun days and we all agreed it’s the way forward socially!
The Venue… We only looked at one venue and as soon as we saw it we were hooked. South Farm, in Royston, is a beautiful rustic farmhouse with converted Tudor Barn, for the wedding reception, and Old Diary, for the ceremony. South Farm is set within stunning grounds and comes with 4 original, old, gypsy caravans, which were fab. Our bridesmaids and best man were assigned these as their sleeping quarters! South Farm suited our needs and also looked magical covered in frost which worked well for our Mid December wedding.
The Dress + Accessories….. An original 1950’s, lace, knee length frock with pearl details at the neckline, long lace sleeves, a full circle skirt and a long, floaty silk bow that hung from at the nape of the neck the full length of the dress. My shoes were pillar-box red, velvet heels with a small bow detail on the side. In my hair I had the most fabulous bespoke headband created for me by What Katy Did Next using snowflake brooches and wintery style pearl leaves.
Finding the dress…. This has got to be one of the most fun parts of the process! After a full day out in London with my bridesmaids and being made to try on ALL styles of dresses I finally tried on my first knee length vintage dress. We all agreed that as soon as I put it on, that was the style for me. It then took two false starts (yes, I had 3 dresses in the end!!) followed by hours searching through vintage and second hand stores before I finally found my dress. After some alterations it was perfect (and an unbelievable bargain!)
Groom’s attire… Scott wore a grey, herringbone, suit with red tie and red converse. My son, Jack, had a similar outfit of grey trousers and waistcoat, red tie and matching red converse. They looked very cute in their matching shoes!
The Readings + Music…. We chose simple readings from the registrar. I was nervous about walking down the aisle. I lost my father suddenly a few months prior to the wedding and was unsure how I would manage not having him on my arm to walk with. So I wanted to choose a song that would make me smile not cry! One of my bridesmaids suggested ‘Going To The Chapel’ by The Dixie-Cups. It was the perfect uplifting, 50’s song and it made me smile so much on the day!
Beautiful bridesmaids….. My daughter Molly was of course my chief bridesmaid! She wore an ivory tulle dress with beaded sash, beaded shoes and an ivory fur bolero. My ‘old maids’ as they became nicknamed were all allowed to choose their version off the Little Black Dress. Accessorised with red flowers in their hair and black and red wrist corsages made by myself.
The Flowers… I have a button bouquet company, Beaubuttons, and I created all my own bouquets from vintage buttons and sentimental jewellery. I love that my bouquets will last forever; I keep my daughters and mine in little vases on the mantle piece. They are a lovely memory from the wedding. On our tables I decided I wanted potted Cyclamen plants. Emma from Angel Scent Flowers planted them for us in an eclectic mix of vintage drinks vessels that we sourced ourselves as Scott works in the drinks industry.
The Cake… Scott and I are big cheese fans and neither of us are that keen on cake so a cheese wheel cake was really the perfect option! Katy also made our cake toppers… a fabulous family of 4 peg people in matching wedding outfits to ours… the attention to detail was amazing.
Your Photographer…. Our photographer was the fabulous Bethan at Haywood Jones Photography. Bethan was a super star and we are so happy with the outcome of the images she took.
A Special Report…. Not only did we have Bethan to record our wedding visually for us we also had the wonderful Emma, AKA The Wedding Reporter, who wrote an emotionally charged report of our wedding day for us. We thought this was such an unusual idea and the perfect accompaniment to our wedding photos.
The Details + Decor…. Lots of DIY touches, including a red polka dot message board, a decorated vintage suitcase for our wedding cards, tea stained luggage name tags, hand wrapped hyacinth bulbs for favours and a small table with framed photos of all our grandparents on their wedding days and my father. It was important for us to have a way of remembering those who were no longer with us.
The Honeymoon…. The most amazing 10 days in the beautiful Maldives Island, hudhuranfushi.
Memorable moments… Waking up to snow!! Although most of it had melted away by the ceremony it made the morning really magical and I had really wanted a bit of snow.
Advice for other couples… Just to try and enjoy the process! It’s your wedding so do it your way!
