A Bright + Colourful DIY Wedding ~ UK Wedding Blog ~ Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Oh man I love Tammy and Joel, i think they just about sum up the {www} ethos… to have fun at your wedding.

They wanted a “fun, laid back, bright, colourful happy summer garden wedding” according to Tammy, which included Dwarves serving canapés, an air display and  a caricaturist amongst some other amazing wedding vedors.

Bride Tammy got creative and crafted 400 pom poms for the confetti…. and the result is amazing. That yellow, blue and red colour scheme is totally fun, and the sweetie table looks amazing in the same tones.

What an amazing wedding, its so creative and fun, not forgetting there is a ton of love involved here.

Thanks so much to the awesome Chris Barber Photography for sharing his amazing images with us today…. wow.

Names…. Tammy & Joel

Wedding Date…. 23rd July 2011

The Proposal…. Joel took me away for my 30th Birthday – everything was a surprise, including the destination – New York and the proposal – on Brooklyn Bridge.

The Vision for the day…. A fun, laid back, bright, colourful happy summer garden wedding.

The Planning process…. We had an absolute ball arranging our wedding. Absolutely nothing was taken too seriously, we had fun with every aspect of it.

The Venue… Manor House Hotel, Moreton in Marsh in the Cotswolds

The Dress + Accessories….. I didn’t want a strapless dress as I get cold easy and I wanted something to cover my shoulders. I’m not into sparkles or fussiness, so I was looking for something really plain. Most shops have rows and rows of lovely strapless gowns with sparkles, embroidery, lacy bits – I knew I had my work cut out.

I’d also decided I’d wear converse boots pretty early on and would need a floor length dress, so most of the lovely 50s dresses that are around now weren’t quite right.
I did all of my looking on the internet and finally found a designer who I absolutely loved  http://www.bluebridalwear.co.uk/ and totally fell in love with my dress online. I looked up stockists and my nearest one was Silk Brides http://silkbrides.com/
I tried on a few different styles, before trying on “the one” which I already knew was “the one” from falling in love with it online. It was indeed “the one” – smiles all round!
I love birdcage veils but struggled to find one that would go with a down-do. I got a full length birdcage veil from America and it suited my dress perfectly – nice and plain with a twist of 50s style.
I have size 10 feet, so getting shoes is a nightmare. Size 10 shoes tend to be aimed at the transvestite market, not a look I really wanted to go for on my wedding day. I wanted to be comfortable all day, so what better than a pair of crisp white converse – I was able to run around with my little bridesmaids and dance all night, the perfect choice!

Groom’s attire… Our colour theme was Blue, Red and Yellow – Liverpool red for Joel’s favourite colour, so the groomsmen had Red cravats.

Joel looked so dapper in his suit – He chose a black suit because the black waistcoat/white shirt combo apparently made him feel like Terry Benedict from Ocean’s Eleven! He made such a handsome groom and it was great to see the lads all suited and booted.

The Readings + Music…. We chose the Captain Corelli’s Mandolin reading, and “The Owl and the Pussycat” I walked down the aisle to “Day Like This” by Elbow, which is one of our favourite songs. Our first dance was Elvis Costello – She. Joel chose it, it’s not too slushy or cheesy and it’s a song we both absolutely love.

Beautiful bridesmaids….. My only adult bridesmaid was my best friend Clare and she had her pick of any blue dress she wanted, she went for a gorgeous Dessy dress and she looked beautiful.

My two little nieces were also bridesmaids and had super cute white flowergirl dresses (which were great for spinning!) with a neckline to compliment mine and a red sash to match them to the groomsmen and pageboy.

The Flowers… It was all about the centrepieces! Huge red white yellow and blue displays; our florist, Sarah at Walker and Knot http://www.walkerandnott.co.uk/ was just amazing . She was lovely, really enthusiastic and loved working with our colour theme.

Sunflowers are my favourite, so I went for a nice, simple sunflower instead of a bouquet.

The Cake… Our cake was loosely based on a Choccywoccydoodah cake, but created by a very hard-working lovely lady called Silke from http://cacaobean.co.uk/ We told her the colour theme, details of the flowers and favours and she made the most crazy yet delicious thing we’ve ever seen!

Your Photographer…. The Photographer was the one choice we knew we had to get absolutely right. We wanted someone who would see the day as we saw it and document it just right for us. Chris Barber was awesome – creative, enthusiastic, they love their jobs and they’re not afraid to show it! They were great fun to be around on the day and our wedding pictures, well… our wedding pictures are just incredible.

The Details + Decor…. We wanted fun, colourful favours and what is more fun and colourful than a Rubik’s cube? They made excellent place card holders too.

My favourite detail on the day was our Sweet Buffet. http://www.thesweetcompany.com/ supplied our amazing buffet. Clare does the most awesome, unique colour themed sweet buffets which are so different to the ones your normally see. She worked with me to get the look I wanted, which was something quite simple but fun. This went down so well with our guests, I was amazed by how much we didn’t have left over the next day!
In the lead up to the wedding, I made close to 400 pom poms for the confetti, table plan and other details. The pom poms were so much fun, well worth the work I put in!
Pashmina and flip flops baskets – both colour themed and both went down very well
Our post box was decorated by my nieces and nephew, with some bright paints and some very messy hands, it’s great when you can add personal touches to the day that tell a story.
Carrie from https://www.chalkboardsigns.co.uk/  designed and supplied our Order of the Day chalkboard, so much more fun than pieces of paper!
We did a quiz for the guests and the winning table got a round of drinks – this brought out some competitiveness, and all added to the fun of the day.

The Honeymoon…. Our favourite place in the world… Las Vegas

Memorable moments… Take your pick!

Advice for other couples… Do exactly what you want! We did exactly what we wanted to do and it couldn’t have been more perfect -  we celebrated our relationship surrounded by our amazing family and friends, in the most fun, laid back, happy way crepossible.

Credit where credit’s due…

Dwarves serving canapés was one of our very first ideas. Joel is 6ft 8, so I guess we thought it’d be funny and something we’d never seen before! Those little dudes were just awesome – such nice, happy, friendly people.

My present to Joel, which I managed to keep a secret from all of the guests, was an air display by Mark Jefferies   http://www.airdisplays.com/wedding.asp
It was great to see everyone’s reactions to this and Mark’s display was break-taking, such a talented man!
We had Stuart Toogood http://www.occasionalguitars.co.uk/ playing guitar in the garden. He plays contemporary music and has a great repertoire, he played a lot of Beatles for us, together with some Snow Patrol, Coldplay, etc – it created such a laid-back special atmosphere.
We had a caricaturist, Spencer May, http://www.spencertheartist.com/ such a great bloke and this was a real laugh.
Our DJ, http://www.fusionentertainments.com/ was great and really played to the crowd.
I wanted very very natural make up and decided Mac was the best, so set out looking for someone experienced who used Mac. The lovely Elle Hitchens http://ellehitchens.webs.com/  travelled all the way from Bristol, she really listened and her idea of “natural” was just what I wanted.
I wear my hair down all the time and I wanted Joel to be able to recognise me when I walked down the aisle. I went for just a few loose curls and loved what Liam, my hairdresser from http://www.the-cuttingedge.co.uk did for me
Videographer – Ben and Kate from http://www.kissinggatevideo.com/ Ben has an incredible creative talent with a passion for weddings music and quality video cameras -  a brilliant combo!
Thanks so much to  Tammy and Joel for sharing their amazing wedding with us today. Are you planning on any entertainment to keep your guests smiling? XOXO Lou

This is the best blog I have ever seen in the category of wedding.
Superbly done by author. Images used are also very interesting.
Colour theme was Blue, Red and Yellow, so it seemed to be more attractive.I appreciate the efforts taken by the author for this blog.
