Expressing Creativity Sunday Rambling + Sneak Peek ~ 15/01/2012 ~ UK Wedding Blog ~ Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Hello lovelies :-) I am getting straight to the point today…

Do we all need creativity in our lives?

I work in the wedding industry, which is an incredibly creative industry to work in, with a variety of ‘arts’ involved in creating a wedding that represents a couple. Are those of us that are in the industry all creative types, which leaves us a craving to express ourselves in our chosen medium, thus turning this into a business? Or does everyone have and need a creative side, whether that be taking images, interior design, gardening, fashion or so on.

Well i am going to talk about my creative side a little today as i don’t think i have told you about my background and love of art. Ever since i was a little girl i loved drawing and painting. In fact one of my earliest memories at school, was being praised by my teacher for a drawing of an oil lamp i did at the tender age on 9…. i must have been special as i don’t remember many teachers praising my art work in school hehe!

Anyway, i took art at GCSE and at AS level, craving to learn a craft of painting and creating art. I was never one of those people that could recreate a scene that would make people gasp in wonder. I so craved that, but often i found myself frustrated, as i would imagine what i wanted to create, but just didn’t have the talent to get it onto paper. I so wish i had the opportunity to learn photography at school, as i think it would have been a revelation to me.

My first love is watercolour… see watercolour elements in the new blog design… i adore the wishy washy colours, the bleeding edges and the delicate feel and texture of this medium. Again i would be frustrated at not being able to paint a landscape as i desired, i am not the most patient of persons. But i dreamed of passing the day, with an easel and set of watercolours painting the landscape ahead of me. Then being able to display my work of art with pride and love. I have yet to achieve that yet. But to be honest, i haven’t dabbled in so very long. Perhaps one day i shall fulfil a dream and sign up to a watercolour class.

When i stopped my art A Level after a year {i didn’t enjoy copying/studying artists, i just wanted to paint and learn new skills} i guess i lost time to pursue this hobby. Going into university i then had even less time, and so it continued to now, where i haven’t painted properly in years.

The reason why i suddenly had this epiphany is that i have set myself the commitment of creating one DIY tutorial each and every month for you; my gorgeous readers. And so yesterday i set myself the task of creating the first said DIY tutorial, and found  my watercolours again. I realised how much i miss spending time being creative in this way. I am lucky i get to write and share other’s creativity every day, but i so long to get back into expressing myself and creating something pretty. Photography has been my newest creative outlet, but i need to make time for older ones too.

I absolutely loved creating this months’ tutorial, and am hoping it will reignite and give me time to find my passion again. It feels as though i have found my perfect creative outlet now, combining all the things i love. I have decided to focus on my strong points, i am creative and i love crafting. I dream of Whimsical Wonderland Weddings being the place for crafty DIY creative couples and i know many of you are. Hence the new {www} slogan featuring the words ‘hand delivering’. I hope my passion shines through on these pages, in my DIY quest. I started this dream last year, with the DIY photo shoot, but personal problems left it grinding to a halt. Well no more….

So what do you think about my DIY tutorial plans? Are you a DIY, crafty, creative bride? Do you need to get creative and in which ways do you achieve that? If you are working in a creative environment does that satisfy you or do you need a personal project to achieve that?

A quick mention for the Wedding Ideas Awards that took place on Friday night, i got to watch it live on the iPad and it was fantastic. I was so honoured to be asked to help judge the awards, it was a very surreal and exciting moment for me. Huge congratulations to all those shortlisted and the winners :-)

Onto this week’s sneak peek….
