Following on from Rebecca and Phillip’s beautiful engagement earlier, i have to share their amazing wedding day. This couple were most concerned about their wedding having a fun and relaxed feel, but that doesn’t mean that didn’t put a lot of effort into making it super pretty too ;-)
I so love Rebecca’s midi length dress and those bright popping pink shoes…. Phillip looks very dapper in his blue suit. There are so many elements i love from their day, from the floral 1950s style bridesmaid dresses, the rustic flowers, twine, VW Camper, the beautiful mint green cake, to the ice cream van…. wow wee!!
Thanks so much to the amazing Katherine Ashdown Photography for sharing her work today, here is what she had to say about the day;
“I knew this wedding was going to be special because Rebecca had told me they would be arriving at the church in vintage campers and having had a look round her parents gorgeous garden I could see this was going to be the most beautiful garden party wedding. Nothing though could have prepared me for just how gorgeous it was!
Rebecca had seriously gone to town on the most amazing details including jars of sweets as favours, baskets of natural roses spilling over in the garden, all different glass vases with meadow like blooms in the centre of each table, knives and forks tied with country style ribbons, old photographs framed and hung on the apple trees… the list is endless!
The rain came down for most of the day but just as the speeches began (which were fantastic) the sun came out and the rest of the evening was simply glorious and very well deserved with all the effort Becky had gone to! We even got out in to the corn field at the back of the house for some shots in the evening sun… Becky you look stunning!”
Names…. Rebecca & Philip
Wedding Date…. Saturday 16th July
The Vision for the day…. A happy relaxed day with all our friends and family in one place having fun!
The Planning process…. We started planning about a year and a half before the wedding. I did it mostly myself with my mum and a bit of input from Phil!
Budget…. £10,000 but went over
The Venue… Blackfriars Hall Norwich then my parents back garden Rockland St Mary Norfolk
The Dress + Accessories….. Prima Donna in Norwich. It was a Justin Alexandra 8465 tea length dress in ivory. £975
I felt amazing in it, I love it and want to wear it again! Accessories, A hair band thing from Prima Donna as well. A silver bracelet & French knickers both accessorize. Bright Pink Shoes by Irregular Choice
Finding the dress…. I had planned on a Monsoon dress but thought I better have a look around the wedding dress shops as it would be the only time I will ever get to try wedding dresses on. Most of the dressed I felt so uncomfortable and awkward in but I fell in love with this one. I just had to have it, even though it was way out of my budget.
Groom’s attire… Blue Suit and Oxford blue shirt
The Readings + Music…. We had music by Jonny Walker a busker and an amazing singer. I walking into Hallelujah then has lots of The Beetles and Jack Johnson type tunes whist signing the register. Phils sister Amanda wrote a poem about us and our life together so far. And another friend Becky Justice did another reading
Beautiful bridesmaids….. I had my dauther Esmee (2) nieces Orla (2) and Georgia (12) and my 3 best friends Miriam, Sarah & Kerry. Grown up bridesmaids were dresses found on Ebay which cost about £35 but all of them were altered to fit their shapes. They were vintage style floral material with lace tulle underskirts. I left it up them how they wanted to accessorize so they all looked individual. The children’s dresses were from Monsoon.
The Flowers… Were done by my amazing friend Debbie Gore
The Cake… Peppermint green 2 tier cake made to order. Topped it fresh cut roses and a love bird ornament, it was from my grandparents house mantle piece, who both died last year. Plus we had lots of cupcakes made by family friends for the evening.
Your Photographer…. The amazing Katherine Ashdown!
The Details + Decor…. My Mum & Dads house in Rockland St. Mary, Norfolk. About 5 miles outside Norwich. We had a Marquee provided by InsideOut Marquees. We also used a small barn as a bar area. Lots of bunting, vintage frames and photos, loads of glass vases filled with roses, vintage style signs. Retro sofas (ebay) and cushions, fairy lights, hay bales etc
We spent the year before the wedding scouring charity shops and car boot sales for vintage finds. We had about 120 pretty vintage plates for the evening cupcake and over 60 glass vases for the flowers on the tables.
For transport we have ours and our friends VW Camper Vans, plus a Vintage Coach from Sideline Coaches to transport people.
On the day as has a free bar and just asked for donation to chariteys close to our hearts. The Big C a local cancer chariety in Norfolk in memoery of Philips mum Janet and The Douglas Macmillian Hospice in Stoke on Trent where both of my grandparent were cared for.
The Honeymoon…. As we spent all our money on the wedding and we have a little girl we didn’t even really think about a honeymoon. But the Monday after the wedding we booked 3 nights into the Thorpeness Hotel in Suffolk whilst my Mum had Esmee. We ate, drank, laid in late, went rowing on the mere, bike rides, pub lunches and relaxed! It was bliss!
Memorable moments… I honestly can’t pick one moment, I loved it all. But here’s a few…. Walking down the aisle and saying ‘I do’. Peoples reactions to the dress, marquee and decorations. All the yummy food! When the sun was shining in the early evening.mDancing…including the soul train and the dance offs! The Camper Van photo booth, so much fun! Organizing our wedding has given me inspiration to work in the wedding/party industry. Combining by 2 favorite hobby’s VW Camper Vans and Photography I hope to start up a CamperVan PhotoBooth business in the next couple of months. So who knows what your wedding can lead too – Watch this space!
Advice for other couples… Don’t worry about the weather, you cant change it’s your only wedding day so be happy, make the most of it and enjoy every minute. Think carefully if you want to do it all at home or a private house. Remember you have to think about everything from the cake knife to loo roll. It can get quite stressful and involves a lot of planning, but worth it in the end!
