When Amy from Wookie Flowers first got in touch, and i viewed her site i got palpitations. I am a flower addict, i adore them and i think the perfect floral creation will transform any space. Amy is a real talent, her floristry is creative and fresh, and her portfolio just tells you everything about her work….
{w} Hi Amy, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?
We offer completely bespoke and unusual floral designs, at the same price as your local high-street florist. We specialise in the slightly quirky, knowing that using beautiful flowers in a different way can completely alter the image of your big day.
To celebrate us being on {www} we’re offering a competition- ‘like’ our facebook page to win a bottle of champagne! www.facebook.com/wookieflowers
{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?
The best bit is exceeding people’s expectations! I love meeting with brides and their families, discussing all the details. I keep in touch all the way along- changing and adding bits and pieces as ideas develop, so I’m just as excited on the day as the bride!
{w} How did you get into florisitry?
When we were younger, my friend and I used to make and sell bouquets outside our village shop to make some pocket money. I ended up going to University to study Politics, which is where I thought I was heading- and then as I graduated I came across Daniel Ost. His work is incredible and inspired me to revisit flowers, so I studied for a Diploma in Floristry.
{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
Literally the x-factor. We want your guests to go home absolutely blown away by your flowers. We think they are really important to your day- they can mean the difference between an average wedding and a truly unforgettable one. It’s probably the only time in your life that you’ll buy flowers on this scale- so we think brides should really go all-out to create something truly magical and memorable.
{w} What style is your work?
Definitely unusual! We love brides with a bit of flair- those weddings with lovely individual details are right up our street. We tend towards the vintage, rustic vibe, but are quite up for creating absolutely anything we’re asked! After all, our style is the bride’s style!
{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
It’s very hard to put a price on flowers- they are bought straight from the auctions in Holland so the prices change daily according to demand.
It also depends on the style you’re after- for instance, brides’ bouquets can vary from £25 for a simple gypsophila hand-tied, to £150 for an elaborate trailing bouquet.
{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting a florist?
Shared vision is key- you have to make sure your florist’s taste matches yours. If you want vintage garden roses and your florist specialises in ultra-modern designs, then you might be missing out. They’ll understand what you want, but won’t deliver in the same way as someone who loves it just as much as you do.
