Feature coming soon…
Hi guys.. i hope you are well :-) I gave this feature a little break… BUT i miss you guys. The first couple of weeks this feature was a roaring success but in subsequent weeks things tailed off. So i though i would have a little down time. But the fact of the matter is i love chatting with you, getting to know you and i am sure you enjoy getting to know each other, so lets do it peeps…. come give me a helping hand :-)
I was chatting to G this week about cassette tapes… and how i remember buying my first single, so i thought i would share my story in the hope i could hear yours in return. After all music makes the world go round… and is an important element of a wedding day.
What was the first single you brought? Do you remember the story surrounding it too?
I was on guide camp… yes i was a girl guide :-) And we went on a shopping trip into town. I remember excitedly heading into WHSmiths.. when they actually sold music hehe! And purchased my first ever single… a cassette tape… Robbie Williams, Angels. I am quite proud of my younger self for such refined taste LOL!! But can you believe, cassette tapes?!! I must dig it out, i hope i still have it.
Your go….. don’t leave me lonely…. *puppy dog eyes*….

Hi Lou, I have missed chatting too!
Gulp...first single was a cassette (oh dear...) Bryan Adams "Everything I Do..." I don't have it anymore (obvs!) but i ruined it anyway from playing it too much LOL.
Love Mel x

Firstly, WOOOO its back!!
I remember the music cassettes I owned were ALL taped off the radio so often were cut short or had the DJ talking over the beginning and end of each song! I even had a cassette walkman! I was too cool.
Now, not sure that it was a cassette but the first album I owned was Linkin Park - Hybrid theory. I had spent the afternoon in A&E having my hip set after falling off my horse, and my mum let me choose something on the way home in Safeway's to cheer me up. The first CD album I had was Status Quo - 12 gold bars, and that was a gift from my dad at Christmas.
I maintain that I was (and still am!) a little rocker, and have been brought up on my dad's LP collection. So Status Quo went down well with me even at the age of 12-ish!!
xx
Lou says:

Bethan Jones says:
First single was Faith No More - Be Aggressive, I was a proper grunger at the time ha ha! The song is pretty crap but I really liked Faith No More and it was in the bargain bucket so I could afford it!!
Lou says:
LOL @Mel
@Bethan you are so cool.... oh to be a grunger ;-) xoxo
Kelly says:
I had a lot of tapes bought for me when I was younger mainly Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Michael Jackson (first ever album was Off The Wall I think) but the one I bought myself was Sure by Take That with a B Side of No Si Aqui No Hay Amore the Spanish version of Love Ain't Here Anymore.
I had some birthday money and we had all gone to Darlington as my Dad was a professional footballer and was playing there and bought it from Our Price (sweet Jesus I feel old).
Xx
Lou says:
@Kelly ahaha gotta love Kylie and Jason ;-) I was in LOVE with Take That... posters everywhere!! xoxo

Hannah - The Ebury Collection says:
OK, this is going to be a teeny bit embarrassing... I can't quite remember which one came first, it was either Kylie Minogue's I Should Be So Lucky, which a friend's mum bought for me, or (and here's the embarrassing bit), Paul McCartney's We All Stand Together, otherwise known as the frog song! I did love it at the time. Both were single records.
And I too recorded songs from the chart show on a Sunday onto cassette. I could never quite get to the pause button in time to cut out the DJ talking!
Hannah Webster says:
I kinda have two answers. My first singles were all on VINYL because I am OLD...I don't actually remember buying any cassette singles, think I went straight from vinyl to CD. I did have A LOT of cassettes though. Really wish I'd kept them in fact. Would be so funny to listen back to them now.
Anyway, singles, sorry. I was a wee little thing at the time but I insisted on being bought "Green Door" by Shakin' Stevens on 7". Some years later, the first single I actually bought for myself with my own pocket money was "Do They Know It's Christmas" - the original 1984 Band Aid version, on 12" Vinyl. Still makes me smile thinking back to how amazing I felt making that purchase. Like I was making a difference. :)
Lou ~ {www} says:
@Emma hehe that made me giggle
@Hannah thats an awesome song, instantly recognisable LOL
@Hannah W Vinyl rocks!! Also that is the sweetest thing ever :-)
thanks for joining in everyone, love getting to know you all more xoxo
