I am thrilled to be interviewing the amazing UK based wedding photographer, Matt Gillespie Photography this afternoon.
When Matt first emailed me and i clicked on his website, i was speechless… his site is so atmospheric, so gorgeous, and it matches his photography perfectly. Each one of his images creates a mood and is a piece of art.
Enough from me, take it away Matt :-)
Hi Matt, could you tell us a little bit about you?
I studied photography at Plymouth University and became fascinated with learning how to control lighting and composition. I spent many years travelling the globe but it took me a while to find my vocation, but I got there in the end and am loving every second of working with and meeting new people.
{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?
What I love about my job, well everything really. I have always been a deep thinker so thinking creatively and viewing the worlds proceedings through my eyes is fun. Any dislikes are drowned out by the love of photography as a whole.
{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?
My start into photography was slow, I left University as a mature student and felt like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Once I had settled I started to assist certain photographers who I admired and who could teach me how to approach dealing with all kinds of clients and the obstacles you have to defeat to produce worthy images. Creating wonderful imagery is not just about having the eye for it, it’s about generating a relationship with whoever is in front of your lens.
{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
I hope my clients look back at their images and remember what a fantastic day they had, I hope they treasure all the little moments I capture that everyone else maybe missed on the day.
{w} What style is your work?
I guess you could call my style reportage, I like to blend in amoungst the guests and shoot them having fun and acting as if I am not there. I have never been a fan of all the big posed group shots but I understand why some people like to have them.
{w} Do you work in other areas of wedding photography?
I do specialize in post wedding photo shoots, often referred to as ‘Trash the dress’ amoungst other things, this is an opportunity for the bride to enjoy her dress away from the pressures and time restraints of the big day. It also gives us creative freedom to have fun and create some beautiful timeless images, this beats having your dress catching cobwebs in the wardrobe. Out on location in any conditions, I strive to create something fresh and visually arresting with each and every bride I work with. Also available for these shoots is a make up artist, hair stylist and videographer to create what will be a brilliant day and a short film with stunning stills.
{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
My packages are not set in stone as they can be tailor made to suit. Details can be seen on my website, or just drop me a line as I am happy to chat anytime day or night.
{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?
I would say firstly you have to trust in the quality of their work, if you love their photography that is your first step, then contact them and chat if your getting good vibes from them them and they are friendly and considerate then you have found your photographer for your big day. Work together and stunning images will come from it.
{w} How can we get in touch with you?
All my contact details are on my website, www.magiphotography.com, on here you have my phone number, e-mail, facebook, twitter and blog, also you can skype me if you wish.
Thanks so much Matt!! Aren’t his images amazing?!! Do have a look on Mattt’s site and if you make an enquiry with him, please do mention {www}.
Happy Saturday xoxo
