Oh my word…. today i have quite possibly my favourite real wedding feature ever on this little blog. It’s so unique, so colourful, so fun and very very glamorous.
Helen and Nic wanted a vintage feel to their day, with Helen having a passion for everything vintage, it would reflect them perfectly. Helen looks out of this world beautiful in her gown and glamorous hair and make up, and her bridesmaids look divine.
Huge thanks to the amazing wedding photographer, Lisa Devine Photography, for submitting this amazing wedding to {www}, here is what she had to say about the day;
“I knew after my first conversation with Helen that Helen and Nic’s wedding was going to be special. Everything about the day from the venue, the cars, the description of the dresses…it all just sounded amazing, and I wasn’t wrong.
The wedding was in the beautiful town of Callander with the ceremony at the local Kirk followed by the reception at the stunning Roman Camp Hotel. It was a gorgeous setting for the beautiful vintage themed wedding the couple had planned.
Helen had sourced her wedding dress and all the bridesmaid dresses from vintage specialists all over the UK. Choosing every detail herself, from the bridesmaids matching fur jackets, sparkling jewellery, co-ordinated but different dresses and the girls change of head wear for daytime and evening. Helen obviously has an amazing eye and I spent part of the morning convincing her she should offer her services to others! (if you are interested let me know and I’ll put you in touch with her…seriously!).”
Brides to be please take note….. ;-)
The Proposal….
31st July 2010 in our local cake shop in Hackney called Violet. After so many years together Nic still managed to surprise me.
The Vision for the day….
Lots of family and friends all thrown together for an excellent party. I wanted the whole day to have a vintage feel to it and the cosiness of the venue and shabby chic of the rooms really lent itself to this.
The Planning process….
The planning was mainly done by me and my Mum, with Nic helping out along the way. The fact Nic & I live in London, and the venue was in Scotland meant it was good to have someone north of the border (mother) to help with arrangements.
Groom’s attire…
Nic wanted to wear a kilt from the very start, which did take me by surprise a little. I had always dreamt he’d go for it but didn’t really think he’d be into it. Being an Englishman, with only distant Scottish blood, he decided on more neutral colours for himself, the best man and ushers. They all looked fantastic.
Beautiful bridesmaids…..
This is where I got to have a lot of fun!. So many people have commented on how stunningly beautiful all 3 of my bridesmaids were. They really were breathtaking. My plan for them was always for them to look individual but I wanted to draw them all together with the accessories. I also wanted them to feel comfortable in what they were wearing. We packed ourselves off to Bristol again and managed to find 2 of the 3 dresses. They each chose the dress they liked best from a selection. The 3rd dress I found online from America. The hats I sourced from vintage fairs and markets across London and I collected gloves from London, America and Scotland. The shoes were found mainly online. The final cherry on the cake was the jewellery. I basically snapped up bargains for months then let the girls choose from a selection of vintage 50s diamante. Their hair and makeup was in keeping with the era. Pin curls galore! And red hot starlet lips.
The Readings + Music….
We had two readings. An Anonymous poem read by Nic’s cousin, and the poem ‘o were I on Parnassus Hill’ by Robert Burns read by our friend Carol. For the music my old school teacher played the organ in the church. I wanted to keep it traditional so it was the Wedding March and Bridal Chorus.
