'The Notebook' Inspired Funfair Engagement in Kent ~ UK Wedding Blog ~ Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Good morning lovelies! I hope you are well this Tuesday morning, i have a real treat of an engagement shoot to perk you up if not.

This shoot was inspired by the incredible and one of my favourite films, The Notebook. So the couple and their stylist decided to head to an amusement park in Kent to capture the essence of their love by their photographer Darren Wong.

Huge thanks to their sylist the amazing Thaoski for submitting this shoot, here is what they had to say about the shoot;

“As an art directer and stylist, the part I love most about my job is meeting the couple for the first time and finding out what’s unique about them. Each couple is so different and each love story can be told differently, but the essence of what makes that couple unique remains the same. It’s their tiny interactions and the way they look at each other, they way the laugh, the way move, the way they know each other SO well… which makes them unique.

My (richly rewarding) job as the art director is to interpret, translate and creatively come up with ideas that will show case a couples love for one another. I call this photographic story telling. And it’s what I live and breathe for.

Jose and Paulina actually approached us after seeing one of our ‘moody and sad’ engagement shoots. They told us they wanted the same thing ie. a ‘sad and moody’ photo shoot. But as soon as I met them, I knew this wouldn’t be possible. They are one of the sweetest, loveliest couples I know. Jose is such a hopeless romantic and Paulina is full of bubbles and sunshine. There is no way I would want to hide these qualities from the camera.

After a bit of digging, I found out one of Paulina’s favourite scenes from a movie is the amusement park scene in The Notebook. We knew we didn’t want to recreate that scene but we wanted to capture the essence of fun, youth and love. We were just very lucky that our photographer had a traveling fun park / carnival relocate near his home the week of the shoot. It was too much of a co-incidence so we had to do it!

What I do have so say though, to truly honor Jose and Paulina … it was absolutely freezing that night! The rain was blowing sideways and they were drenched by the end of the shoot. But still … you can’t tell!! Their love for one another shines through and Paulina is still full of bubbles and sunshine and it’s very obvious, Jose is hopelessly in love with her!”

    What beautiful light to work with. I'm guessing it was a challenge to shoot in such changeable, colorful light? Worth it for such a vibrant result though.
