A London Celtic Chic Wedding + A Claire Pettibone Dress {1}
11.03.2011

Oh oh oh i am so in love with today’s wedding extravaganza.….David and Jennifer were married on the 29 Jan 2011 at 3pm at the gorgeous  The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in London. David and Jennifer wanted a London city wedding with a Celtic feel, which resonates beautifully.

Jennifer looks incredible in her Claire Pettibone wedding dress {one of my favourite wedding dress designers ever!! see here} with gorgeous purple killer heels and a stunning bouquet… wow!!

Thanks so much to Cheltenham wedding photographer, John Day Photography for sharing his work today.

Groom’s attire…

Dave likes a good suit and keeping with the relaxed vibe he decided to go down the personal tailoring route with Reiss…. The process itself was ok, perhaps a little more stressful than it should have been as a previous variation of the trousers were too narrow on the leg. Thankfully Reiss’s tailor sorted it all out. The dark grey 3 piece suit looked fabulous with paul smith shoes, a Reiss white shirt and a purple floral tie from Liberty’s. I gave Dave a pocket watch with our wedding date engraved on the back, for his Xmas and he looked utterly handsome.

The Proposal….

On Jennie’s 30th…..12 Jan 2010, Dave formulated a lovely surprise at the end of a fabulous dinner at Le Trois Garcons, on the fringes of the city… he popped the question after dinner. http://www.lestroisgarcons.com/restaurant/index.html

Dave had spent some time finding the perfect ring, a green diamond, for the girl who loves everything green, which was stunningly simple yet utterly original.

Beautiful bridesmaids…..

I had four bridesmaids –Hayley, who I was at uni with, Emma, who I’ve lived with and Jane and Linda (we’ve all been b’m’s for eachother and had so much fun). I honestly can’t thank them enough because it was a complete ball and it was all so much fun at the hen and in the run up to it all…

Dresses were from Coast and complimented each one of the girls with the dresses fab shape, length and versatility. They all looked amazing, with each of them keeping it unique with different jewellery. Shoes were a bargain from New Look and tied in the purple colour to it all.

The Vision for the day….

Having both lived in London for 10 years or so, we knew we wanted to have a local city wedding. Many of Jennie’s family travelled from Perth in Scotland, and with Dave having a Welsh side to the family we were keen on having celtic touches throughout the day. There wasn’t a particular theme, but if we were to sum up what we were looking for it was a relaxed vibe in the City with the odd celtic touch.

The Planning process….

Started off with downloading all of the licenced, civil venues across various London Boroughs. We have both worked in the City and knew how quiet it was at the weekends so that held a certain appeal… and we knew we wanted one venue which we can hold the whole day in. We tried to keep flexible with the dates – I wasn’t keen on waiting longer than 18 months though… so we drew up a budget, taking into account approximate costs, figured out how long we’d need to save and then started looking at venues. We were both open to having a wedding in the early part of the year, knowing that there may be more venue options that time in the year….

The Ceremony Readings + Music….

Because we had a civil ceremony we stuck with instrumental music which gave us a bit more flexibility as there were no lyrics. One of our fave places to eat is Bistroteque, in London’s east end, and Xavior who plays the piano amazingly, happened to be free to cover the ceremony and reception. Xavior plays an eclectic range of current through to old skool hits, on the piano. I walked down the isle to Nick Cave’s Into My Arms, which translated beautifully, and back down the isle to George Baker’s Little Green Bag (most commonly known as the theme tune from Reservoir Dogs). During reception, Xavior covered everything from Dolly Parton to Kings of Leon.

My younger brother and one of my closest friends both kindly agreed to do a reading on the day. Cat read a quote from Kahil Gibran’s The Prophet: Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.

Rob read a wonderfully funny and sweet story by Edward Monkton – which kinda resonated with Dave and I (I like shopping, Dave is indeed very clever): http://www.itakeyou.co.uk/wedding-ideas/wedding-readings-poems/a-lovely-story.htm

The Venue…

We came across the The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple through the catering company, Searcy’s who cater at a few venues across London (St Pancras wine bar, The Gherkin etc..) and the very lovely marketing lady made arrangements for us to visit the Inner Temple. The Inner Temple is one of the four Inns of Court (professional associations for barristers and judges) in London, and offered a fantastic location just between fleet street and Embankment. The Inner Temple has an incredible warmth and array of fabulous features, without any over the top glamour. It reminded me of an old country house in Scotland, and once we arranged the finer budget details – we sealed the deal!
