A Pub Wedding + Funky Polka Dot Orange Ties {2} ~ UK Wedding Blog ~ Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

It’s time for part 2 of this morning’s beautiful wedding feature. I love so many elements of this wedding, the photography blows my mind, the groom’s tweed suit, the sweetheart table for Aimee and Oli, the pub venue, and of course the down to earth, head over heels in love couple :-)

Thanks so much again to their amazing wedding photographer Anna Clarke for sharing her work today. Enjoy.

The Details + Decor….

The reception venue was already fantastically decorated so I didn’t have to do anything which was fantastic! I just made sure the table names were in the right place the night before. I never wanted to make a big fuss about the decorations as I don’t think that’s what people remember about weddings. I believe they remember the company, the food and wine and the music, so that’s where we concentrated our efforts.

The Dress + Accessories….

I had a Benjamin Roberts dress from Stella Liliana in Studley, a faux fur wrap from www.wraporshrug.co.uk , a necklace and earings set from Swarovski (which was one of my 30th birthday presents from my Mum and Mother-in-law) and borrowed accessories from my friends and late Grandma.

I initially bought a dress from a wedding fair as it was only £75 but didn’t actually fit me! I thought I could get it altered but in the end decided to buy a different dress as I found one I loved so much more. When I tried on the dress I felt so amazing, about 2 dress sizes smaller and so elegant. It’s such an amazing feeling when you find ‘the dress’.

The Groom’s attire…

Oli had a suit made to measure from www.clementsandchurch.co.uk. He knew he wanted a tweed inspired suit and just couldn’t find anything even slightly suitable off the shelf. The groomsmen also had their suits from Clements and Church and we had lots of comments on the day about their originality. Oli’s worn his suit jacket nearly every day since!

Memorable moments…

I can vividly remember most of the day which is fantastic as I was worried that it would all go by in a blur. I particularly loved the big red London bus we hired to transport all our guests between the ceremony and the reception, all the guests had a glass of champagne and we all bopped along to the bus tunes!

When we sat down to eat me and Oli had a sweetheart table for 2 so we had a good chance to chat about the day so far and that was lovely.

We held the speeches before dinner in the bar area to make them feel more informal which was fantastic. I loved all the speeches and knowing everyone sat down to dinner relaxed was a great feeling too.

The band we chose were amazing and all our friends had a great time dancing the night away, I particularly remember us all doing a bit of limbo dancing later on in the evening which was great fun!

The Cake…

Neither of us particularly like wedding cake but we do love cheese! So we decided to opt for a ‘cheese cake’. We had 4 rounds of cheese and cut it just like a ‘normal’ cake then served it with coffee after the dessert. It also served as part of our evening buffet which went down well as there was hardly any left. One our guests thought the cheese looked so good he would cut into it before we had a chance to cut it ourselves! He was mortified when he found out, he didn’t realise it was the ‘cake’, he just thought it was some cheese so decided to help himself. We thought it was hilarious!

Advice for other couples…

Enjoy every minute and savour the special little moments with your new husband/wife, take a minute to step back together and survey the scene of all those nearest and dearest to you having a lovely time celebrating your special day. Don’t get too caught up in the detail if you truly believe it’s not important to you. We had a fairly small wedding with only our best friends and immediate family and I’m so pleased we did it that way as it meant I got to speak to everyone throughout the day. We had no evening guests either which meant no new arrivals for us to greet, we could just get on with the day and enjoy ourselves. Do what will make you happy. Not what will make others happy.

Oh, and book Anna Clarke as your photographer as she and Simon are awesome!

The Honeymoon….

We went to Bruges for 5 days on a ‘mini moon’. A fantastic little break away from all the hustle and bustle. Exactly what we needed.
