A Peacock Vintage Grecian Garden Wedding Featuring a Jenny Packham Dress & Hydrangea Bouquet ~ Jane & Ben
20.09.2010
Wow weeee  what a gorgeous wedding i have for you today {www}ers!! Yes that’s right a Vintage, Grecian wedding with peacocks :-) I love the laid back vibe to Jane and Ben’s big day. No formal tables, but deck chairs, gorgeous hydrangeas, afternoon tea, games and peacock feathers, not to mention a stunning Jenny Packham dress. I am really spoiling you today – the gorgeous bride Jane has given us all the juicy details from their gorgeous wedding. Huge thanks goes to the lovey Lisa Dawnfor letting me use her stunning images, here is what she had to say about the day;

“Jane & Ben got married at The Larmer Tree Gardens, Tollard Royal, Salisbury on the 13th August 2010!  We started our day at the beautiful Launceston Farm B&B, which is just down the road from The Larmer Tree.  Here we took some photographs of Jane and her family getting ready.  We also had a good wander around Launceston Farm as the rooms are stunning and the setting so peaceful! Jane & Ben fell in love with The Larmer Tree the first time they saw it and new that it was going to be the ideal venue for their relaxed and fun wedding celebrations. Despite the showers, nothing was going to stop Jane going barefoot and walking across the lawn with her dad and sister into the General’s room where their ceremony took place. Following the ceremony we went off around the gardens with Jane and Ben, whilst guests sipped champagne by the Roman Temple. In the afternoon, tea was served and everyone enjoyed games on the lawn. The speeches took place by the singing theatre, where guests gathered on deckchairs and was followed by dancing.  Jane and Ben’s first dance was to ‘You’re just to good to be true’ by Andy Williams played by the ‘Stour Valley Stompers’- a 7 piece Trad Jazz Band. Following a game of rounders everyone made their way to The Pavillion where a hog roast was served and more dancing followed!”

Take it away Jane….

It started with a ring….
Ben proposed to me in august last year which gave me 12 months to plan. Originally we were going to get married abroad but thought if we could get married outside we would consider the UK. The other thing we knew was that we only wanted a small family affair with immediate family. As you know you can’t get married outside in England so when we stumbled upon the larmer tree gardens it was perfect. We also realised that, because it was such a stunning venue, that we had to share it with all our family and friends. The date was set, Friday the 13th, unlucky for some but we’re not superstitious and knew that whenever it was we’d have a fantastic day. It was also a bit cheaper so Ben was happy!

The planning begins…
Then came the planning. Most people would say that they have imagined their wedding day since they were young but I didn’t have a clue! We knew we wanted a chilled out, informal day and all I kept saying was ‘vintage grecian’. Everything else, although time consuming came together, my florist, Claire @ sunflowers, instantly got what I wanted and my bouquet was a simple hydrangea head with peacock feathers and Ben liked the look of the calla lily, so he had that accompanied by a peacock feather.

Because the larmer tree gardens have peacocks roaming around, which we loved, we based most things on that, from the colour of my sister’s bridesmaid dress to the feathers and our invites and ‘wedding website’ which Ben made himself. We also took our colour scheme very loosely as blue and asked our immediate family to all wear blue. To go with the garden party/ afternoon tea feel I went to a few car boots and bought loads of cup and saucers, some of which we used for tea but others I turned into candles for table decorations in the evening. I think some people, including Ben didn’t know where I was going with it sometimes but I just kept saying ‘trust the vision’ and in the end all the details came together and worked!

Beautiful Bridesmaid…..
My sister was my only bridesmaid and her dress was a dessy dress in sailor blue.

Gorgeous decor….
We tried to re-use the flowers where ever possible so the hydrangeas in metal buckets which decorated the steps of the ceremony room, were also the day time and evening table centre pieces. We also had the teacups which I had turned into candles as centre pieces in the evening to continue the garden party theme.
Also, we placed our wedding favours, cones of traditional pic’n'mix sweets, alongside a guestbook which I designed and made myself. I wanted it to be a keepsake and tried to match it to our theme, so it was blue with a hint of ‘vintage’. The favours and the guestbook were enjoyed by all and we had some really lovely comments in our book.

The dress…..
My dress was called Tabitha from Jenny Packham’s last collection but all her dresses are stunning. I got it from silk brides in Lichfield who were fantastic, great selection of designers and fab service! I had the dress from a shop I used to pass every day. I knew the style I wanted, something a bit different and floaty, and when I tried on the Jenny packham dress and my mum and I both cried I knew it was the one! Jane’s head piece was by Polly Edwards.

Breaking with tradition….
We wanted to have cake but not the formalities of the cutting etc so my aunty made 96 cupcakes, decorated them with dolly mixtures, and transported them down from Manchester for us! We had them displayed on little cake stands, along side the tea cups.

Afternoon tea….
We had a late afternoon tea which consisted of sandwiches, sanity scones and tartlets etc, which were then followed by the cup cakes and tea on the lawn. We also had a traditional ice cream trike (brock ice) which rode across the lawns and provided a spectacle and dessert for our guests! As we wanted a relaxed garden party feel we didn’t have allocated seating for the afternoon tea, in fact we intentionally didn’t have enough chairs. We had 70 guests but only seating for 25 but we pulled put deck chairs and people were happy to stand and catch up!

Ben and I didn’t see any of the food , not because it ran out but because we were so busy enjoying the day, talking to friends and family, bouncing on space hoppers and even managed a game of rounders (still in my dress!).

A beautiful day…
The day was amazing, from waking up at Launceston Farm, near blandford, getting the Beauford with my dad, walking across the lawn barefoot (the only thing I was insistent upon), the ceremony, our promises and readings, the photographers really relaxed informal attitude, just everything, including dancing in the rain, was perfect!!

Jane’s advice to other couples….
I think you have to do what you want and have what you want. I don’t think you can please everyone, and although it sounds selfish it was our day and because it was exactly how we wanted we were able to be ourselves. We hadn’t wanted any pomp and ceremony and because of that, when we both jumped on a space hopper and had a race people just thought it was brilliant! The people are there to see you and enjoy your day, one of the comments we have had was that there was a feeling of warmth and love and that was brilliant to hear but i think it was because we were all relaxed and having a great time. Enjoy it. Make time to speak to your groom/bride. Be yourself.
